Interview with NecroMutilator done by Patrick
1.Hails please introduce yourself to the readers and how is life in Italy these days?
Hail, here is +P+, guitar/vocals. Here is same shit but different days, as always of course
2.NecroMutilator was started back in 2009 what gave you the idea to start this band? What is the current line up of the band?
The inspiration was very intense, as it actually never ended, and so there was a pressing need to give shape to an entity to satisfy that. I talk you about both ideological and musical need of course, and I can say it happens in a very spontaneous way. Current line up is lasting since summer 2012 it’s me, +P+, on guitars/vocals, +E+ on bass and +R+ behind drums.
3.Who would you say are NecroMutilator's biggest influences? How do you feel the bands music has changed over the years and releases?
Biggest influences are rooted into old school black, thrash and death metal. I am always obsessed with 80s and 90s evil metal. I can say for sure early DARKTHRONE, HELLHAMMER, early BATHORY and VENOM has signed a deep influence in the beginning, but when the sound is shaped you already know what you need. Anyway the main sound worship when I create riffs is having in mind early SARCOFAGO, HOLOCAUSTO, early MAYHEM, BATHORY, NIFELHEIM, early SODOM or ARCHGOAT but during their making it’s all about dark impulses and evil instincts.
About Necromutilator’s music well, I maybe would talk about improvement, not change. In the beginning the sound of the demo was very raw and “garage” (has someone told me once), not caring much about production or songwriting. Then we spontaneously paid more attention to the sound and everything, just focusing on being more evil and violent, that’s it, but I basically thing nothing really changed specially about ideology and attitude.
4.Black Blood Aggression is the newest full length release how long did it take the band to write the music for the new release? Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write everything?
We started making this material since late 2016 and it takes about one year writing all the music. The writing process always involves the whole band but who mainly take care of the riffs it’s just me. Whole band is involved mainly about the structure of the songs. I entirely take care about the lyrics.
5.Does NecroMutilator play live very often or do you prefer working in the studio? What have been some of NecroMutilator's most memorable shows over the years? And who are some bands you have had the chance to share the stage with?
Because of our full time jobs we could not play live very often. I think we usually do from 5 to 10 shows per year when it’s good. We only played 2 times in 2018. Anyway I expect to do the right shows to promote new album, don’t know how many, just the right number. We played some very good gigs and some not, but I can remember very few as really “memorable” actually, like the first album release gig supporting NIFELHEIM and VULCANO in 2014, opening for Raging Death Date festival in 2016, fist gig abroad in Valencia, Spain, in 2015 and the one with TERRORSAW and ARS GOETIA in Padova.
By the way we had the chance to share the stage with very great names such as MYSTIFIER, KILL, VULCANO, NIFELHEIM, MORBID SAINT, PROFANATICA, NECRODEATH, DEMILICH, POSSESSED and many others.
6.Are their any tours or shows planned this year in support of the new release? If yes where will the band be playing?
Spain and Portugal for a 2 dates mini-tour with our comrades in darkness MARTHYRIUM from Galiza, then release gig in Milan with two great UG warrior MORBUS GRAVE from Milan and BLACK LEGION from Trento, and then we’ll see what happens.
7.Besides the Black Blood Aggression release are the bands previous releases still available to purchase? Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise available if yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?
First album CD is officially sold out, I just have very few copies as march for gigs. Lp version still available through the band in few copies as well as for the MLP and tape version of it. 8.NecroMutilator comes out of the Italian thrash,black metal scene what is your opinion of Italy's metal scene over the years?
UG Metal scene in Italy has grown a lot in the last 10 years about bands, projects and dedicated people like promoters or maniacs in general. What is mandatory to say anyway is that is not hard to see a lack of true spirit in doing this, except for few people. Riding trends and safe-space seems to be normal most of the times even among extreme metal bands. Basically most of times many people seems to have no real identity but just alternative or business propensity.
9.Who are your all-time favorite Italian metal bands and are their any new bands you could recommend to the readers?
Early NECRODEATH and MORTUARY DRAPE, alongside early DEATH SS are favorite all-time Italian bands. But talking about great names in the Italian UG I cannot mention the mighty VOIDS OF VOMIT, DEMONOMANCY and MEFITIC. Anyway I must recommend some extremely good new (and not) bands such as THULSA DOOM, SEPOLCRO, BARBARIAN, HELLISH GOD, UNCREATION, DEATH MECHANISM.
10.Are their any honest and reliable labels or distro's in Italy that you could recommend to the readers?
Of corpse! TERROR FROM HELL records, UNHOLY DOMAIN records, IRON TYRANT and the younger DISMAL FATE records are true underground dealers. All recommended.
11.What does Underground Metal mean to you?
Not easy to answer, actually. I think it represent the culture that reflect the biggest part of my identity. It’s not only about simply spreading hatred and revenge feeling but a real spiritual path to channel an evil ideology against the modern world in which we all are stuck. You will always be free through spiritual revenge and independence. That’s why I strongly believe in the power of dangerous music against religions and social shit and illusions in the way get a constant form of untouchable freedom and victory.
12.Besides working in NecroMutilator do you or any of the members currently work with any other bands or solo projects?
Yes, I began playing bass in DEATHFUCKER /thrash/death) a couple of years ago, then last year I started 2 projects behind drums and vocals. First is called BLACK EJACULATION (with a member of DEATHFUCKER and MACABRO GENOCIDIO), black metal which the first demo is out soon via UNHOLY DOMAIN recs. Then SADOMORTUARY (with one of the minds behind RADON TRENCH) a black/death entity in the vein of VON, BEHERIT, which first S/t demo is self released already out since one month. I also play guitar for VOMITMANTIK black/death metal chaos with former members of UNCREATION, TERRORSAW and MORBID PEST.
13.When you need to take a break from band business or working on new music what do you like to do in your spare time?
It’s normal for me focusing on other projects in the spare time. Beside that, I still buy records so I love digging into underground past and present bands, reading zines and other stuff. Watching old movies and drinking is also always satisfying.
