Interview with Jay Parker owner of Masters Of Kaos Prod. posted on 6-10-22

1,Hails Jay how are things going with you this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hails patrick, thanks man.. things are great this end thanks .. My name is Jay, I'm co-owner at Masters Of Kaos with my good friend and brother in arms Carlo Quiceno, and I am also Vocalist and guitarist in The Witch, a Bogota based BM band.

2.When did you first discover black and death metal and who were the first bands to catch your attention?Who are some of the current bands that you have been listening to?

I was tape trader in UK when I was a kid and I suppose it must've been 1990 when I heard Celtic Frost, Bathory, Blasphemy and early Emperor and Samael.. gradually teh scene grew and more great bands appeared.... Current bands?? Angrboda's Curse, Winter's Breath, Amock, Bál, Hand Of Flauros, Valadier, Perventor, Amock, Chovu too many to mention... right now as I'm writing this I'm listening to a split by Evilfeast and Uuntar

3.Jay you own and operate the black metal label Masters Of Kaos Prod. when did you first get the idea to start a label? Are you satisfied with how things have gone with the label so far?

Carlo and I started the label last year in October, basically to release music from our band The Witch.. ... Gradually things kinda snowballed, and more bands came on board and liked the idea and what we were doing.... We are absoulutey gobsmacked and humbled by the response we have had from bands from all over the world.

4..What do you feel is the easiest and hardest part about running a label?Do you have any friends or contacts who help you with the label?

Carlo helps, and one of the girls from the witch, Star Ruby also helps with promotion... the hardest part?? Remebering stuff hahaha I am a wee bit forgetful.

5.What are your current releases that are availible for the readers to purchase? What are some of the upcoming releases that the readers should look out for

We have so many... we recently released Perventor(colombia) In abhorrence of Light, Angrboda's Curse(PR), Amock(PR) NIohoggr(PR) Osy Mainty (madagascar) and the classis EP by Ofermod(sweden)mysterion tes anomias...Check out our page...https://mastersofkaos.bandcamp.com/ for june we have a 10"white vinyl ep, the mirror gate from Perventor, Winters breath(austria), Valadier(italy), both deput eps... and some killer split albums between colombian/puerto rican bands and austrian and hungarian bands...

6.How many hours a day would you say you work on label business?

at least 6, often more

7.What styles of metal do you carry in your distro?Do you do many trades or do you prefer to buy wholesale?

Black metal, Death metal, Grind.... we do do some trades yes, and we've had some great stock in as a result, although trades are usually for our personal collections.... We don't buy from other labels, we release our own Cds/Vinyls/Tapes... and we don't do wholesale, just limited editions.. no mass production haha we do maximum 100 copies, often less , to make our releases special and collectable.... I find that mass produced music loses it's prestige and covetability.... In my opinion anyway.. I'm sure many would disagree...

8.If their are any labels or distro's reading this what styles besides black metal do you carry in your distro?Where can the labels get in touch with you about possible trades?

On Facebook, Masters Of Kaos or Jaypkazazel777@gmail.com

9.What does Black metal mean to you?

Solace, escape, a harmony between the mad moments in this ever maddening world. and passion.

10.When you need to take a break from working on label business what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Im usually writing or recording... I?m also involved with archaeology projects here in Colombia, so it's nice to get away in the mountains and disconnect and explore.

11.Jay you live in Colombia South America what is your opinion of the black death metal scene in Colombia over the years?

The scene here is one of the best and most varied on Earth and I would strongly recommend the readers to ccheck out not just Colombian abnds, but BM from latin america in general

12.Who are your all time favorite bands coming out of Colombia and are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

Esbbat is the staple legendary band here that has been consistantly good and never sold out...Old school and underground.. The guys from Esbbat play in many other bands and are always there to help support new bands on the scene, as they did with my band The Witch... New bands?? In abundance in COlombia.. Oreb zarak, Perventor, Cancerlumnia, Terror Satan, Tapias De Pilatos was recently reborn too, great band...

13.Jay thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

Sarkom interview done by JAY posted on 6-10-22

Today I'm talking to vocalist Unsgaard and Somby ....

1 Tell us about Sarkom.. when/where/why was the band formed?

The band was formed in Lørenskog, a small suburb right outside Oslo, in 2003. The band was formed as a platform to vent anger and frustration against the weakness called humanity.

2 Describe your music in 5 words

True fucking Norwegian black metal

3 Who is in the current line up?

Vocals: Unsgaard

Lead Guitars: Galaaen (since 2016)

Guitars/Bass: Somby (since 2017)

Drums: Malignant (since 2020)

4 Please run us through yur very impressive discography.. album by album... where can our readers buy your stuff??

Aggravation of Mind (2006)

First full length album, featuring two songs from the demo (2004). Brutal sound, fast paced black metal. Some elements of sax and trumpet. Also includes some guest vocals by Raskolnikov(RIP)

Bestial Supremacy (2008)

Moving more back to the roots with traditional black metal.

Doomsday Elite (2013)

This was the first album where we used synth, which is clearly a sign of a band that wanted to evolve.

Anti-Cosmic Art (2016)

Very varied album - from fast paced classic black metal to more punk-influenced parts and groovy rock. This also contains a cover of Sodom's classic "Sodomy and lust".

In addition to the full length albums we have also released six 7" EPs between 2009 - 2021. These are for the first time ever available in digital form on most streaming platforms now.

5 Your last album from 2016, Anti-Cosmic Art is a real masterpiece... tell us about it, when/where was it recorded, what the experience was like....

It was recorded in Oslo in the time period of 2014-2015. The experience was shit and stressful as always. Things rarely happen to go as planned, but somehow we managed to pull it off in the end. Hopefully our  next experience will be better, but we'll see...

6 what inspires the lyrical content in your tracks?

Mostly personal experiences with a negative vibe.

7 tell us about the music writing process who/how do you do that?

We usually write the songs individually. On the last album, I (Unsgaard) wrote all the songs, but I hope this will change in the future.

8 What instruments do you use? do you drop tunings?

The core of the band is the classical black metal instruments; guitars, bass and drums, but every once in a while we can whip out a sax, trumpet or synth to complete a song. We’ve used drop-D since the beginning.

9 what inspired you to become a Black Metal musician?

To be able to reach like-minded people around the world and to be able to express ourselves through dark art.

10 What are sarkom's plans for the future? I understand you have more new material to come?

Our next release will be two songs on a vinyl release. More details about this will come soon. At the moment we are also working on our fifth full length album which we hopefully will start recording this summer.

11 tell us about your best and worst experiences as a Black Metal musician..

Through touring there are many pros and cons, ups and downs. You meet a lot of great people etc. On the other hand you can get pretty exhausted and fed up, like when you're suddenly find out that the booker fucked up and you don't have a place to stay for the night etc.

12 tell us about the current scene there in Norway, we all know it's infamous reputation as a spawning ground for BM and demons ...

The scene has been pretty stagnant for a long time. In many ways it’s become more about fashion than the music and message. It looks like it's more important to pose on the internet than to create and experience the art of black metal.

13 tell us a funny story from one of your shows ( there is always one hahaha)

Nah... Guess you must have been there to understand the funny side of it...

14 what is your favourite all time BM album and why?

Unsgaard: I started listen to black metal when I was around 15 years old, and I guess the albums from that time still are among my favourites, like Darkthrone - Panzerfaust, Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss... Besides old classics, I don't listen to that much black metal these days. I actually rarely listen to music at all.Somby: Kvist - For kunsten maa vi evig vike. Raw black metal!

15 what is your opinion on the evolution of BM over the years and where do you think it will go in the future?

We touched upon it a couple of questions ago - overall it’s stagnant at best. We need to get the interest of the new generations in order to move forward. If that doesn’t happen the genre is going to fade into oblivion.

16 What modern bands do you listen to?

We don’t listen to many modern bands. Actually we can't think of a single one, at least not in the metal genre.

17 What words of wisdom would you give to any up and coming bands / musicians?

Don’t expect anything. Everything you achieve is just a bonus.

18 Would you like to add anything for our readers?

As mentioned we have recently released all our 7" EPs on the digital platforms, so check it out on Spotify, Youtube, Apple music etc.

Thanks for reading and your support - we hope to be able to come and play in Colombia some day!

-Unsgaard and Somby                                                                                                                                   Band  Contacts                                                                                                                                              https://www.facebook.com/sarkom                                                                                                             https://sarkom.bandcamp.com/

Osy Mainty interview done by Jay Posted on 6-8-22

Here is a new interview that was  submitted by a friend of mine who should be  sending more interviews in the future.                                                                                                                                 Patrick

Hi this is Jay reporting from Bogota Colombia..

Today I'm lucky enough to be talking to Osy Mainty from Madagascar.

A fast-rising star with a growing following, this is definitely a band for the future..

Ca va mon ami! Thanks for talking to our readers..

1 Tell us about Osy Mainty.. when/where/why was the band formed?

I created the project in 2010 here in Antananarivo. Back to the days, I was dreaming about a live band but several troubles pushed me to make it a 1 man project. Before Osy Mainty I had many other projects that were mostly into core but nothing serious or great. I think the bands that actualy made me love bm were Dimmu Borgir and Dark Funeral but my passion for depressing stuff is a kinda natural

2 Describe your music in 5 words

This is just my past

3 I've been fortunate to have a preview of the forthcoming album Born Within Disgrace...I can say it is mindblowing.. original..terrifying...groundbreaking.... run us through the album tracks and tell our readers where they can buy it...

Ok so 1st fitia poizina is the malagasy for poison-love. It's a musical summary of my love stories (the kind of story that make you wanna die) i used 4 languages for the lyrics (malagasy, french, english and japanese) My bro also played the lead guitars on it

2nd resy or defeated. The last minutes of somebody who comited suicide (in music)

3rd satana mpanjaka mahery or great king satan. Anti-religious and anti-constitutional track.( I was baned coz of it)

4 hanaraka anao or following you (into the grave) is the story of somebody who wana die coz they lost the 1 they loved the most

5 flashing lights is a sorta late party that will be forgoten the following day (but few images remained)

6th coromax is at the same time a sensibilization for protection against covid 19 and a modest requiem for the victims

7th Suicidal obsession... Do I really have to explain?

8th Born withing disgrace is more in the field of rejection or being rejected. Disability, ugliness, loneliness, self-destruction, adiction, uselessness...

The album is available at Masters Of Kaos Productions. Support the underground. Hail metaleros...¥m/...

4 what inspires the lyrical content in your tracks?

It's obvious. Also depends on music. Sometimes, lyrics come first. Most of my lyrics come from real emotions but I also try to talk about something else in order to make it less narcisictic.

5 what inspired you to become a Black Metal musician?

I don't know much. I just love it

6 What are your plans for the future? I understand you have more material to come?

Yeah some material first especialy internet conexion. Them maybe trying to find a scene for Osy Mainty and for what might bm become here. Depends on the public. My job is done.

7 tell us about your best and worst experiences as a Black Metal musician..

my Accident was the worst (but maybe it's just my mind) and still waiting for the best.

8 tell us about the scene there in Madagascar...Recommend some bands for our readers..

Seth, dark'inside, samara, azazael... We have plenty of good band here but the public is modal.

9 what is your favourite all time BM album and why?

Hard to say. The band who made me dream the most must be dimmu borgir but I also love so many other bands IF I HAD TO CHOOSE...In sorte diaboli, spiritual black dimension...

10 what is your opinion on the evolution of BM over the years and where do you think it will go in the future?

No one can actualy predict tomorow but according to what we're living today I'd say atmospheric say will take a huge dimension. Same for electronic or virtual music but it will probably take more time.

11 What modern bands do you listen to?

Violet cold, deadspace...

12 What words of wisdom would you give to any up and coming bands / musicians?

Ego kills talent and 2 are better than 1

13 Would you like to add anything for our readers?

Thx a lot for supporting metal... Hail

Interview with Callous Posted on 6-1-22

1.Hails GraveLurker please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hails, I am Gravelurker the vocalist and guitarist of Callous, a three piece black metal band from Vermont/Upstate New York.

2.When did you first discover Black Metal and what is it about this musicial style that drew you in?

I first discovered black metal sometime in high school. I was in my early stages of becoming a serious music listener. I would sit on the computer and scour forums for recommendations and free file downloads of samplers. It was during this time I first heard bands such as Mayhem, Emperor and Bathory. From there I was hooked, while I loved bands like Deicide or Morbid Angel for their blasphemous intensity there was more to the spirit of black metal that I appreciated. It didn’t feel like just music but a state of being.

3.Who were the first bands that you heard?Who are some current bands that have caught your attention?

Many of the first bands I heard were the legacy acts; Mayhem, Bathory, Immortal and Burzum. But I think it was Satanic Warmaster who truly hooked me in at my younger stage. The balance of cold atmosphere, melancholic melodies and that Finnish triumphant up beat really spoke to me. I find myself looking for similar blends in a lot of what I listen to today.

There’s so many great projects and bands out there it’s hard to keep track, I try to balance my listening by looking for older materials as well as new. Lately I’ve been really into Warmoon Lord, Mopok and Maniac Butcher.

4. GraveLurker i believe you started Callous as a solo project in 2014 what gave you the inspiration to start this project? How did you choose Callous as the name of the band?

I wanted to do a black metal band but was having a hard time find anyone to play with at the time so I decided to start performing by myself with a drum track. I would just record, put on soundcloud and see if anyone would book me which lead to some shows early on.

I’d liked the word Callous for quite a while. Someone had once referred to my viewpoints in conversation as Calloused and the word kind of stuck with me. It has a head strong meaning to me. Much like black metal, it cares not for the opinion of others and speaks its truth. Formed from pain to withstand further; it’s strength from suffering.

5.Who would you say are the bands biggest influences and have they remained the same over the years? For the readers who have never heard Callous how would you best describe the bands musicial style?

The Callous sound has definitely changed a bit over the years, in particular with the addition of members. The early stuff was very chaotic, high bpm with bar chords and shrill vocals. Then there was some shift into incorporating atmospheric sound and trying to find the right balance. Early on I was very experimental when it came to the writing because I was still looking for the sound of Callous.

The biggest influences for the writing have been those of Horna, Satanic Warmaster and early era Enslaved. Callous has found its footing moreso now with its members and full length release where we’ve found that balance of raw energy and cold atmosphere that I think those bands in particular really demonstrate.

6.When did you first get the idea to add more members to make a full line-up? What is the current line up of the band?

I was approached after a live show I did as a solo project by Lord Gallows whose been a staple in the local scene for some time with his band Mythology. He expressed interest in doing drums and mentioned a mutual friend of ours, Raithus from Mythology and Sunder, who would be interested in doing bass. We set up a few sessions and the lineup has remained that way ever since.

7.The Triumph Of Blasphemy is the debut full length which was released through Born For Burning Prod. when did you and the band first come in contact with this label?

Born For Burning started up around here so I knew of him and the local acts he put out. I’d played with a few of them so when he heard about Callous doing a full length he gave us the offer and it went from there. The guy truly does a lot for the underground and gets bands from all over now so its a great honor for Callous to be amongst the Born For Burning lineup.

8.How long did it take to write the music for the debut release?Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write everything?

The album took about a year to get put together. It was during COVID so we had to make the most of minimal in person sessions. I would go over to work on riffs and drums with Lord Gallows to get songs ironed out and then we would record them separately to send to Raithus. We’re all a bit spread out so it’s not the easiest for us get together. Basically a lot of file transferring happened between us to get everything recorded. Normally we prefer to write in the room but being three years after the demo release we really wanted to get something out and had to make due with what we could.

9.Where do you draw inspiration for the lyrics for the music? Which usually comes first the music or the lyrics?

Music always come first for my process. I won’t know the words until the riffs are formed, vocals are another instrument so it has to fit the music. I’ve always found it too limiting to try and write around lyrics first.

The lyrics primarily revolve around antagonising those of faith, declaring God is dead and will remain dead. And that it should be celebrated. That the flags of blasphemy will continue to be raised and fly in victory over the sealed tomb of christ. What those of faith call heresy, I call liberation. This is where I truly try to center the lyrics, hence the music and its titles being that of “Triumph”.

10.Besides the The Triumph Of Blasphemy are the previous releases still availible for the readers to purchase?Besides physical releases does the band currently have any other merchandise availible for the readers to purchase? If yes what is availible and where can the readers purchase it?

Previous releases are currently unavailable in physical formats though we are considering doing a few releases in the future. The other merch we have available is tee shirts which you can find us on Facebook and shoot us a message to order.

11.What does Black Metal mean to you?

Black metal means individualism. Both musically and spiritually, I think that’s what makes black metal such an incredible genre. As I stated earlier, blasphemy is a liberation. Black metal really takes that on. The themes of death, anti-religion, misanthropy, nihilism etc, all match in unique blends to the music. Black metal has always been a versatile form which I think is it’s greatest strength.

12.GraveLurker you handle the vocals for the band when did you first start screaming and growling? Do you do anything special to keep your throat and voice healthy?

I first started screaming in my room when I was a kid getting into my very first metal music. I would drive my family nuts trying to hit Tom Araya’s infamous Angel of Death scream while making the worst attempt at playing it on guitar haha. I was that kid who would constantly get called out at school for being spotted thrashing and yelling with my headphones on along some side walk. Musically, it really wasn’t until Callous that I started to actually work on my vocals.

I don’t really have any good tips for keeping your throat and voice healthy. I can only say that it takes a lot of repetition I think to figure out where exactly your voice is, whether its more gut felt or throaty.

13.Who are some of your favorite vocalists?

Werewolf (Satanic Warmaster) Spellgoth (Horna) and Famine (Peste Noire)

14.You also handle the guitar duties for the band when did you become interested in playing the guitars? Are you self taught or did you take lessons when first starting out?

AC/DC “Hells Bells” at the age of ten in the back of my dads car. I heard it on the radio and immediately wanted to learn guitar. That was the seed of everything really. At 14 I finally got a guitar , played through my teens and took lessons. I learned a lot about rock n roll and the basics bu I finally hit a point where I wanted to focus on metal so I became more of a self taught guitarist later on.

15.Who are your biggest influences and favorite guitarists?Do you currently play any other instruments at this time?

Favorite is a tough question, it’s not black metal but I think I’d have to say the Hoffman brothers. I don’t think a lot of music would exist without those guys and the early days of Deicide. There’s not one bad riff in those first few albums.

I’m most influenced by a lot of the Finnish and French guitarists for my own stuff. Wherever there’s a march beat with a gripping riff, that’s where I wanna go. I also play bass for a black-death band called Shitangel where I get to express my more Sarcofago war metal passions. I’m also doing guitars and vocals for a dystopian death metal band called Anti Life Hate Cult.

16.Besides working in Callous do any of the members currenlt work with any other bands or solo projects?

Lord Gallows plays in guitar/vocals in his primary band Mythology, also plays bass in Lightcrusher and does guitar for Morbid Romance. Him and Raithus also have a band called Sunder. All of which are excellent black metal acts that are worth the attention.
