Interview with Niohoggr posted on 8-22-22

Hails Memphist how are things going with you this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hails Patrick! Pretty busy but worth it! Thanks for the unholy chance for the interview for Volent Demise. For those who doesn’t know me im Lord Memphist of the black metal bands Niiohoggr and Amock. Also member and Guitar player on the BM band Angrbodas Curse.

When did you first start listening to metal music and who were the first bands and artists that caught your attention? Who are the current bands that have caught your attention?

Well; I began listening metal around the 1999. At first I was into Old school Death Metal. Deicide, Obituary, Malevolence Creation etc. But after a while some bands from the Black Metal scene aswell began to caught my attention. Bands like Sargeist. Dark funeral, Caphatian Forest, Gorgoroth.

When did you discover Black Metal music and what is it about this genre of music that has kept your attention over the years?

Well; as I said some bands cught my attention not just in music and performance. But in lyrical context. I felt define pretty sick to the bone with this kind of music. For me was a lot more true expression to the core. No rules, no limits.

Gorgoroth, Dark funeral, old Dimmuborgir caught my attention mainly.

Memphist you handle all the instruments for the band when did you first become interested in writing and performing music? What was the first instrument that you learned to play?

My first solid intrument was and is the guitar; the other instruments I learn it like secondarly was the Bass, keyboards then vocals.. I found my ways of how I wanted Niohoggor to sound. I found more bond to me express what I really wanted and desire. O.M.B. so I began writing the lyrics and the recording process by myself. For live performance I have to get accuante it with optional members, get rehearsals possible right and the music develop as it should be. Then make performance possible. Even known that me personally, are not amimming that much in live performance. From time to time. My goal is to spread Niohoggr music and context the more in can be acchieve.

Are you self taught or did you take lessons when first starting out? What instruments do you currently play? Are their any instruments that you would like to learn one day?

I took lessons and studied music a short period of time. But mosly I learn and was self tought and a lot of practicing and learning. About Learning and learn another instrument who knows.

Memphist you also handle the vocals for the band when did you first start screaming and growling? Do you do anything special to keep your throat and voice healthy?

Indeed. At first i was just guitars member of what at that time was called Fortress of Demise. Years passed and I had the desire of began mastering the vocals as well. Practicing a lot while playing guitar. And with niohoggr, little by little I found the right sound for it. From there a lot of transitions with the band happened. As ultimatley end as Niohoggr. And yes there is some techinques it worked for me to keep the voice sharped for Niohoggr. Due that I do voice aswell in my other bm band Amock; which is completely opopsite to Niohggr vocaly speaking. Thus then techinques are opposite. Two bands, to complete diferent voice tequiniques. Is all about learning ways ns that worls for each band.

Niohoggr was started back in 2008 what gave you the idea to create this band? And how did you choose Niohoggr as the name of the band and does it have a special meaning?

Niohoggr was created way before 2008, but around 2008 I began officially my conquiest with my BM label SOMBERWOLF LEGIONS. Time I began to take things another path and more serioustly. The influence to mold this band as t is right know consisted in mix my spiritual pagamic ways of be with a more progressive and raw antichristian way to develop the music. And the influence of the bands name Niohoggr is from the Norse believe annd sagas. Niohoggr. In Norswe beliece Niohoggr was the final eternal end for a social stigma, just as those who did things that bmake them loss of honor and the status of a villain. Niohoggr name refer a horrific monster in its action of chewing the corpses of the cursed ones keept in Niohoggr reing Nastrod. Those guilty of murder, rape, oath-breaking. Dishonofurul souls whos tormrnt shall be endless with Niohoggr.

Berserker was originally self-released as a digital release but recently was released on cd.Through Plague Demon Rec and Blasphemous Creations Of Hell Rec when did you first come in contact with these great labels?

I came to know the blasphemous exsistence of this brutal labels and owners by a closes friend who is involved with them.

How long did it take you to write the music for this release? How long does it usually take to complete one song?

Well, the original year that I recorded Berserker album which was in 2018 it took me a coiple of months. The ideas and the concepts of the songs I had it pretty solid. So it was prety moderated then time of 3 months thaat it took me to record berserker album. About the time it takes me to record a song , it really depends on the concept of the song im creating and messege I want to spread.

Where do you draw inspiration for the lyrics and what are some topics written about on this release?

I felt inspired for this album mostly in norse pagan topic. Obscured screeds with antichristian concepts.

Niohoggr has quite a few releases that are availible on digital format are their any plans to release these on a physical format soon?Or are you going to concentrate on writing new material?

I have in plans to release most of them on physical formats. It was about time to get out of the shadpws to spread Niohogg material. And indeed it is new material that shall be released as his soon after there re- realese be conjured at his fullest.

What does Black Metal mean to you?

An etreme gateway of expretion. A musical unholy and raw way of chaos.

When your not working on new music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?

Mostly spending family time with my wife and son. Living the moment.
