Interview with  Hornwood Fell  done  by  Patrick

1.Hails please introduce yourself to the readers? When did you first discover  black metal?
Hi there! I'm Marco of Hornwood Fell a black metal band from Italy. I discovered Black Metal in 1994 and two years later, 1996, together my brother, we released the first demo ep of our first project "Hastur Evocation". the name of the demo was" when bestial moans composed a sweet symphony", it was a melodic black metal inpired by norway and swedeen black metal and heavy stuff of that period.

2.Who were the first bands you discovered? Who are some of your current favorite bands?
In the middle 90's i listened like Ulver, Satyricon, Enslaved, Darkthrone, Kvist and all amazing stuff released in norway in the 90's. Today i like Antaeus, some stuff of Deathspell Omega and others black metal bands from France.

3.When did you first meet the other members of the band and was it long  before you all decided to start this band? How did you all  choose  Hornwood Fell as the name of the band?
the band was formed in May 2013 by me and my brother Andrea. "Horn Wood Fell" for the meaning they express. Then, the name of the band, is become Hornwood Fell, we have attacked the first two words and the name in this way we liked more.

4.What is the  current line-up  of the band?Who would you say are the bands biggest influences and how would you  describe the bands  music?
Hornwood fell it was always a duo band. Only in the first self titled album we had a bassist player. In the firsts three album released by Avantgarde Music the influence was that of norwegian black metal of 90's, especially for Self Title album and Yheri, our second album. In the third the style is more avntgarde than the others 2 previous releases. Now we are going towards a stuff more gloomy and ferocious, like "Inferus", our last EP, inpired by gloomy, apolaptic art like for example Zdzisław Beksiński.

5.Inferus is Hornwood Fell's  newest EP. how long did it  take the band how long did it take the band to write the music for the newest EP.?
Inferus is been write in a one night. We wanted make a work totally of stomach.

6.Who usually  handles  writing the lyrics  for the music what are some subjects written about on the newest release?
The lyrics are inspired to Dante’s Inferno. Sometimes with the vocals, on the songs, we wanted to create the anguish of victims convicted on the nine circle of "Dante's Inferno" only with screams and moans for give the right atmosphere.

7.I believe Inferus is a digital only release  are their any plans to do a physical release  soon?If yes when will it be available for the readers?
For the moment it is out only in digitally and in cassette in limited edition. We are looking a new label for release this one and the next works in cd and vinyl.

8.Besides  Inferus I believe the band has a few other releases  are  these still available for the readers to buy?Besides the new EP does the band have any other merchandise available if yes what is available and where can the readers buy them?
Yes, the previous releases are available on the store of Avant Garde Music and worldwide. About “Inferus” you can buy a limited edition cassette on “shareyourpainrecords.com/album/inferus

9.Has  Hornwood Fell  played live very often or is this a studio only band? What has been some of the bands most memorable  shows?
Hornwood Fell is a studio project!

10.What does black metal  mean to you?
Today It remains the unique genre metal we like into the metal in general. For us, Black Metal, is the better way to express some our emotions, that part gloomy of us , shadow side that lives into ourselves. This genere give to us the possibility to put on music a part of us in a better way than other musical genre.

11. Hornwood Fell  comes out of the Italian black metal  scene what are your thoughts  on the Italy's black metal scene?
I don’t know well the italian scene. I liked very much the last album of “Lorn – Arrayed Claws” nad “Alien Syndrome – Outer” if we speak of Black Metal band.

12.Who are your all-time favorite Italian bands and are their any new bands you feel the readers  should check  out soon?
Asofy is areally good band of experimetal doom and other, very atmosphere and very particular.

Interview with Decayed done by Patrick posted on 6-14-18

Interview  with Decayed  done  by Patrick

1.Hails how is life in Portugal these days? Please introduce yourself to the readers?
JA - Life in Portugal is bearable, like most places. I am J. A. of the Portuguese Decayed. We are an old school Black Metal band. I play guitar and do some vocals and well.

2.When did you first start listening to underground metal and who were some of the first bands you listened to? Who are some of your current favorite bands?
JA - Shit! Tha was ages ago... I started listening to the Underground when I started working for a zine called Nuclear Mosh. That was in 89 I think. Can't remember the first bands I listened to though. I don't follow the scene anymore. Got disgusted by all the bull shit! But I do enjoy Desaster, Martelo Negro, Flagelador just to name a few.

3.you all started Decayed back in 1991 when did you first get the idea to start this band?
JA - Actually, I see it as 1990 when it was called Decay. I wasn't pleased with the name so I added the "ed" but the songs remained the same. The idea came when working for the zine I mentioned. One of the collaborators wanted to start a band, I had stoped Alastor cause I couldn't find musicians, so we decided to start a band and by June we were working on some riffs. It was all very fast, by September we had a full line up.

4.Who would you say Decayed's biggest influences and how do you feel the bands music has changed over the years?
JA - The biggest influence has always been Venom. Without them, I believe this band would sound different. It's impossible not to change in 28 years. I changed as a person so my music and lyrics also changed. Many musicians came and went, they also changed the overall sound of the band. But we kept true to our ideals.

5.Of Fire And Evil is Decayed newest full length how long did it take the band to write the music for the new release?
JA - It took us a couple of months. But I had already most of the album written down. I usually start working on some riffs way before the album needs to be recorded.

6.Besides the newest release are any of the band's previous releases still available for the readers to buy?Beside physical releaplanned ses does the band have any other merchandise available for the readers to purchase if yes where can the readers purchase it?
JA - Yup. I have a ton of available merchandise, just send me an email to: chroan#sapo.pt

7. Decayed have been active since the early 90's has the band played live over the years? If yes what have been some of Decayed most memorable shows and tours? And who are some bands you have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with?
JA - Yes we played a lot live. We did our first show with just 3 months of rehearsals. We did some amazing shows. Unfortunately we only did a tour back in 2000, thanx to Drakkar Productions from France. But now and then, someone invites us to do some show in Europe. The show we did in London was great. Lots of booze. The last show we did in UTBS was memorable due to fucking heat! The guys of Sathanas were amazing, we spent a great weekend in Germany with them.

8.Are their any tours or shows planned in support of Of Fire And Evil?
JA - We have a show in Lisbon on the 22nd of September with Primordial and Aura. We had to cancel 3 shows due to work problems. But we expect to do some shows still this year here in Portugal to promote the new album.

9.What does black metal mean to you?
JA - VENOM!!!

10.Decayed comes out of Portugal's old-school black metal scene what is your opinion of Portugal's black metal scene over the years?
JA - I really don't care. I left the scene years ago due to all the bullshit and backstabbing!

11.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of the Portugal scene? And are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?
JA - Brain Dead is my favorite Portuguese band... before they changed, just like Thormenthor. Reballion was also very good. Check out Martelo Negro and Necro Bode. More heavy, Midnight Priest. Grinding madness check out Grog.

12.As mentioned earlier in the interview Decayed was started back in the 90's.Did you read a lot of fanzines back in the 80's and 90's? If yes what were some of your favorite fanzines to read?
JA - I did a lot of reading back then. I bought a lot and others got in trade. Tales Of The Macabre is a name that stuck, just like Slayer Mag. There were tons back then, Ancient Ceremonies from Portugal was good.

13.Tape-trading was also a big back in the 80's and 90's did you ever do a lot of tape trading? What were some of your favorite bands and demo's you traded for back in the day?
JA - That's how I met most of the bands that still play on my stereo these days. I used to trade tapes with people from all over the world. I always recorded them all the great bands we had in Portugal. The demos of Merciless from Sweden. Pandemonium from Poland. Scypozoa from somewhere, I can't remember... that was a life time ago...

14.When you need to take a break from working on new music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?
JA - Watch movies, that's how I rest nowadays. Mainly horror movies, new and oldies, sci-fi also is a most, Marvel releases and DC...

15.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
JA - A big thank you for the support! To the readers; feel free to contact me. Keep Metal alive \m/

Interview with Throneum done by Patrick posted on 6-8-18

Interview with Throneum done by Patrick

1.Hails how are things going in Poland this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?
IA AZAG!!! Here speaks The Great Executor – the tongue of the biblical serpent and the sword of Cherub! For 3 years now I live in Germany and do not follow the events from Poland anyway. However other Throneum´s members live in Poland of course. We speak often, but not necessary about Poland.

2.When did you first start listening to metal music and who were some of the first bands you listened to?Who are some of your current favorite bands that you enjoy listening to?
Fuck, it was back in 1991. My first album I had listened to was TESTAMENT “Practice What You Preach”. I do really like TESTAMENT all the time! The last „Brotherhood Of Serpent“ is a damned good album.

3.Did you enjoy reading faanzines when you first discovered the underground? What were some of your favorite zines to read?
In my area, there were a lot of underground bands and zines. I had involved in the Underground around 1993 I guess. I have started to buy zines and demo tapes in my local music store. It was Eligor zine as the first… fucking long time ago, but I remember it as yesterday…

4.Besides fanzines were you into tape trading in the early days of the underground? What were some of the early demo's and releases that were your favorites to listen to?
I had started to collect demo tapes even before Throneum - I have begun to trade in 1998 as soon as Throneum – at that time Throne has released “Beyond The Numbers And Creatures” the first demo. Anyway, the first demo tape I had bought around 1993. It was a promo tape of Amazeroth – a local band from my hometown Bytom. Soon after I got demos of Love History, Bigotry and my fave demo tape ever – Pandemonium “Devilri”! Yeah, those were my first demo tapes.

5. Throneum was started in 2000 when did you first get the idea to start this band? And what is the current line up of the band?
Throneum started as Throne in 1996. In 2000 we have added only the ending –um because there were a few other bands with moniker Throne. There were 2 demo tapes “Beyond The Numbers And Creatures” and “The Underground Storms Eternally”. Both were recorded with the same line-up.
Anyway, I had started to play in a few bands in 1993 but 1996 I have decided to create my own.
The current line-up forms besides me Armagog on bass and drummer Diabolizer.

6.Who would you say are Throneum's biggest influences?
There are too many bands to call all of them and it depends on the time as well; but one of my fave band ever was and still is SADISTIK EXEKUTION. Otherwise I adore old bands like Bathory, Celtic Frost (Triptykon inclusive), Molested, Imperator and thousands other names. But I listen to also other
genres; lately Magma and works of Helmut Lachenmann, Agata Zubel, Lucia Ronchetti and Bjork are the enormous inspiration for me.

7.The Tight Deathrope Act Over Rubicon is the bands Ninth full length how long did it take the band to write the music for the new release?
I guess I composed everything within a few weeks, later I have reworked a few of them and remade some arrangements. I took 2 or 3 months in general. The process of recording was really long indeed. Altogether it was 10 months from beginning of recording sessions to mastering.

8.Are their any shows or tours planned in support of The Tight Deathrope Act Over Rubicon? If yes where will the band be playing and who are some bands you will be sharing the stage with?
Throneum plays very rarely live, but yes we have 2 rituals in coming weeks. There are two Festivals planed: Black Silesia Festival and we will play there with Blasphemy, Nifelheim, Witchmaster, Anima Damnata among others and Under The Black Sun Festival in Germany – there are a lot of bands I can mention Master´s Hammer, Sign, Arcturus, Nocturnal, Anal Vomit…

9.What does underground metal mean to you and how do you feel it has changed over the years?
Underground means the independence and freedom of creation and thinking. This is first of all. In that meaning Throneum is the deepest Underground Creature! The Structure and even meaning of Underground progressed over the years. I couldn´t find any proper definition for it. Anyway, we can speak about Underground as philosophy, as style of life, as culture, as scene and bands. The word “Underground” is a general idea.

10.Throneum comes out of Poland's blackend death metal scene what is your opinion of Polands metal scene over the years?
Poland had and still has a very good Black and Death Metal scene, with many underground acts. The scene evolved of course. But it didn´t lose its identify and devotion! Polish maniacs are fucking crazy and drink a lot of vodka! Sex, Drinks & Metal!

11.Who would you say are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Poland? And are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out?
Everyone knows Vader or Behemoth (by the way “The Satanist” is a fucking good album) but I must throw other names out of course: Azarath, Witchmaster, Anima Damnata, Cultes Des Ghoules, Nekkrofukk, Hell-Born, Evilfeast, Szron, Infernal War, Mgla and fucking many others… and I must recall also these old, cult names: Imperator, Magnus, Ghost, Pandemonium, Christ Agony – these last 2 bands are active all the time.

12.When you need to take a break from writing music or band business what do you like to do in your free time?
I make long trips in woods, very often with my bike. I relax when I don´t need to look other people and see only green spaces, than I have a lot of time to thinking. Otherwise I read a lot of books. Self-development is very important to me.

13.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
IA AZAG!!! The time is near!
