Interview with Kuupyr Posed on 11-4-22

1.Hello Oleh how are things going with you these days? Please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hello, Patrick! Doing pretty well. Busy as hell!

2.When did you first discover metal music and who were the first bands and artists to catch your attention?

I discovered metal when I was a kid. Like 7 years old or so. My uncle was a metalhead. So, sooner or later I was doomed to become a metalhead as well, heh. My first bands (that I still like to listen to) were Metallica, Lake of Tears, and Kiss.

3.when did you discover the black and death metal underground scene?Who were some of the first bands that you listened too?Who are some of the current bands that has caught your attention?

I started to hang out with some badass dudes during my early college days. They got me into some dark shit. Burzum, Mayhem's Deathcrush, Satanic Warmaster - those were my first steps. Nowadays there are tons of black metal bands (so-called). But it happens that you can find some gems among the piles of shit. Recently, I started listening to Surrender of Divinity - badass BM from Thailand. Malokarpatan is a very cool band from Slovakia that deserves more attention. And, of course, Void of Melancholy (and other projects of PJ).

3.when did you discover the black and death metal underground scene?Who were some of the first bands that you listened too?Who are some of the current bands that has caught your attention?

And, of course, Void of Melancholy (and other projects of PJ).

4.When did you first become interested in writing and playing music? What are the instruments that you currently play? Are you self taught or did you take some lessons when first starting out? Are their any instruments that you currently do not play but would like to learn one day?

I started playing guitar like 15 years ago. My father stole the acoustic guitar for me from some dude, haha. One of the first things that I wanted to learn was Raven Land by Lake of Tears. Took me some time though I nailed it. Nowadays I try to play drums when my knee allows me to.

5.Oleh you also handle the vocals for the band when did you first become interested in screaming?Do you do anything special to keep your throat and voice healthy?

I started practicing vocals when I started playing guitar. It was kind of a natural process. I do not do live performances (at least for now), so there's no need to do anything special for my throat. Sit, drink beer, and record.

6.Who some of your all-time favorite musicians and vocalists over the years?

Werwolf (Satanic Warmaster) and Darkthrone (both NC and Fenriz). I think those guys are extremely talented. Even beyond the Black metal.

7.Kuupyr was started in 2021 when did you get the idea to start this band? How did you choose Kuupyr as the name for the band and does it have a special meaning?

I wanted to start something raw that would represent my tastes in 90s Black metal. Early Behemoth, Darkthrone, Beherit, etc. In my Ukrainian veins flows 20% of Finnish blood. So, I came up with the name Kuupyr - a combination of the Finnish Kuu (moon) and Ukrainian Upyr (vampire).

8.Black Forest Path is the debut demo that was released on cd through Blasphemous Creations Of Hell and Plague Demon Rec. when did you first come in contact with these labels?

A few labels contacted me right after the YouTube release. The demo was released on tapes and CDs in Thailand, Poland, and the US.

9.How long did it take to write the music for the debut demo? Where do you draw inspiration for the lyrics on the debut demo?

It was written and recorded in like 2 days. I was full of inspiration. Lyrics were inspired by horror movies and Witcher books by Andrzej Sapkowski.

10.Have you started writing new music for the next demo or would you like to work on a full length release?

Everything is written for the full length. Just need some time to sit down and record it.

11.What does Black Metal mean to you?

It's hard to say, to be honest. Not because I don't know but because it's hard to find words for it. It means a lot. It's an essential part of life. It's the way of life. A philosophy. A life that you live by your own rules.

12.Oleh you also recently started Pohoron when did you first get the idea to start this band? Does the name have a special meaning?

Pohoron means funeral in Ukrainian. It's a project inspired mainly by hatred. In Eastern European countries, there's a big problem with dividing the church from the everyday life of people. My attitude towards it is represented in that project.

13.People Of The Goat is the debut demo that is being released through Born For Burning when will it be released?

It’s out now! (Yeah, it took me some time to answer to this interview, haha)

14.How would you describe Pohoron's musical style? And how would you compare the music between Kuupyr and Pohoron?

Pohoron is about aggression. It leans more towards War Black metal, I would say. While Kuupyr is more traditional Black. Though, I prefer not to divide Black metal into subgenres. If it's Black - it's Black.

15.How long did it take to write the music for this demo? Have you had time to start working on new music for Pohoron's next release?

The demo is just 2 songs. So, it was done pretty fast. Yeah, there are some new ideas for EP or even full-length.

16.I believe both bands are solo projects would you like to work with more musicians for future releases or do you prefer working alone?

I have plans to collaborate with my friends for the future Pohoron release. It could possibly grow into something bigger. We'll see.

17.When you need to take a break from working on music what do you like to do in your free time?

Reading books, collecting vinyl and cassettes, and video games.

18.Thank you Oleh for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the reader's?

Thank you for the amazing questions!

Interview with Dark Invoker Of Chaos vocals and all instruments for Askalaphos done on 10-23-22

1,Hails how are things going for you this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hello Patrick. Thanks for this interview. Everything’s been fine. I’m K. from Askalaphos. Askalaphos hails from Volos, Greece and was formed in 2019. I’m the only member of Askalaphos and I’ve released 1 demo, 2 EPs and one full length album.

2.When did you first discover black metal and who were the first bands that caught your attention?Who are some of the current bands that have caught your attention?

I listened to black metal for the first time when I was around 13-14. It was Rotting Christ’s “Snowing Still” and Necromantia’s “Spiritforms of the Psychomancer”. Both tracks were included in compilation CD released by the Greek Metal Hammer and I was immediately drawn by the darkness of those two songs, which I still love by the way.

3.When did you first become interested in writing and performing music what was the first instrument that you learned to play?

I became interested in the whole songwriting/band stuff when I still was in high school. As almost everyone else I started with guitar. After a couple of years I also started playing bass, mainly because I was playing in some bands that already had a guitarist, but it was actually something I actually enjoyed more than playing guitar

4.What are the instruments that you currently play? Are their any instruments that you would like to learn one day?

I can play the guitar, bass and I have taken drum courses for around 2 years, so I can also play the drums, but sadly, I cannot play as fast as I’d wanted for Askalaphos and my other projects. I don’t own a kit so I don’t practice at all but the plan is to start practice more in the future and actually learn how to play on a decent level.

5.You also handle the vocals for the band when did you first start screaming and growling?Do you do anything special to keep your throat and voice healthy?

I started screaming for some bands I used to play where I had to do some backing vocals in live situations. So, since I am the only member in Askalaphos I have also handle the vocals even if I don’t like to do so.

6.Who would you say are your biggest influences and favorite vocalists?

My biggest influences for Askalaphos are mostly the 90s underground Greek bands like Rotting Christ, Varathron, Necromantia, Thou Art Lord, Tatir, Fiendish Nymph etc. and a little bit from  the Nordic scene. I always loved the old school Greek sound since I was a kid and Askalaphos is my way to pay tribute to these bands. Can’t beat the atmosphere and mysticism of that particular sound. My favourite black metal vocalists are Magus Wampyr Daoloth of Necromantia, Nocturno Culto and Dead.

7.Askalaphos was started in 2019 what gave you the inspiration to start this band? How did you choose Askalaphos as the name for the band and does it have a special meaning?

As I already said, I started Askalaphos as a tribute to the 90s Greek black metal bands, even though I don’t want to be restricted to this particular style and I have incorporated some elements beside that.

I’ve found the name of project a couple of years ago and I thought that it’d be great for a Greek black metal project and there’s not a special meaning behind it.

8.I believe you are the sole member of the band did you plan to work alone or would you like to find more musicians to work with on future releases?

Actually I didn’t have a particular plan for Askalaphos when I started it. Even though I’ve played in some bands in the past (ranging from black metal to prog-death and grindcore), I wasn’t in a band at the time and just recorded the songs of the first demo on my own and when I saw that I actually could it on my own, I kept releasing more songs.

I wanted to work with a drummer for “March of the Damned” but I didn’t have the time so it’s just me on the album. This happen in the next full length for sure.

9.What do you feel is the easiest and hardest part about being the only member in this band?

Well, the easiest part is that I can compose music whenever and however I want. I truly appreciate the fact that I can record whatever I like without having the process to be approved by 3 or 4 other people, which on the other hand is the biggest disadvantage of a one man band, because it’d be really helpful sometimes to have someone to say to you that this or that shouldn’t make it to a final recording.

10.March Of The Damned is the debut full length that was released through Born For Burning Prod. when did you first come in contact with this label?

I came in contact with Born for Burning Productions around the end of 2020 when we discussed for a cooperation and decided to release a compilation CD called “The Macabre Chronicles” containing “Blood Moon Incantation” Demo and the “The Cult of Death” EP. I’m pretty satisfied with my collaboration with Born for Productions so far. Hails to Isaac

11.How long did it take you to write the music for the songs on March Of The Damned? How long would you say it usually takes to complete one song?

I was in a very creative period when I wrote the music for March of the Damned so it took about 2-3 months or so to complete all the songs. Although, I had the main ideas for a couple of  the songs since 2020. Well, the time I need to complete one song is not something standard, because there are periods of time when I have the time I need and complete a song in a very short period of time (even in one week) and there are times (like now for example) that I don’t have any time at all to sit down and write, so finishing a song could take forever.

12.Where do you draw inspiration for the lyrics and what are some subjects written about on the new release?Which usually comes first the music or the lyrics?

Actually I start composing the music of each track and in the meantime ideas about the lyrics and the main theme of the song come up based on the feeling of the music. The lyrics deal mostly about the occult and rebellion against all gods and masters.

13.What does BlackMetal mean to you?

For me black metal was always been about rebellion and to praise the rebellious spirit that lies in every human, whether it’s revolting against religion, state, the modern world etc

14.Besides working in Askalaphos do you currently work with any other projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?

I have another project called Woundcult which is meant to sound more raw and cold and is more influenced from the Norwegian/Finnish scene. Nowadays, I’m working mostly on Woundcult’s first full length album which I hope to be released in 2023.

15,Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

Thanks for the interview. Keep supporting the true underground. Garden Of Rot is is Isataii third full length release featuring seven songs. The music on the new release is still traditional black metal that Isataii is known for.But the music seems more controlled and mid paced in the delievery. Each song  is crafted and composed with a great writing ability. The guitars are played with some extremly well performed mid paced passages. The guitars do speed to a faster pace throughout some tracks to give each a song it's own idenity. The vocals are raw, grim black metal screams and screeches.Isataii  have released another masterpiece of black metal showcasing the bands ability to create traditional, straightforward black metal.                                                                            Isataii  contacts                                                                                                                                              https://isataii.bandcamp.com/                                                                                                                        https://www.instagram.com/isataii_official/                                                                                                  https://www.deezer.com/en/artist/137338562                                                                                                Plague Demon Rec.                                                                                                                                      https://plaguedemonrecords.storenvy.com/                                                                                                  https://plaguedemonrecords.bandcamp.com/music                                                                                      https://www.facebook.com/Plaguedemonrecords.net/                                                                                  https://www.instagram.com/namtar.axarcuth/?hl=en                                                                                    Blasphemous Creations Of Hell  Rec.                                                                                                          https://bchrecords.storenvy.com/                                                                                                                  https://blasphemouscreationsofhellrecords1.bandcamp.com/                                                                       https://www.facebook.com/blasphemouscreationsofhellrecords/                                                                 https://www.instagram.com/b.c.h.records/

Interview with Iron Death Posted on 9-6-22

1. Hails how are things going with you these days? Please introduce yourselves to the readers?

At ease, soldiers! We are IRON DEATH. A warmongering Death/Black battalion straight from the trenches of Flanders Fields. After every battle leaving death and demise in its wake.

2. When did you first discover black and death Metal and who were the first bands you listened to? Who are the current bands that have caught your attention?

As a battalion the soldiers' tastes are very eclectic. Growing up in different parts of Flanders Fields they were all brought up on metal soil during the 90's.

Some get their purge on with Infernal Coil, Artificial Brain, Haunter, Ad Nauseam. Other men are fired up by bands such as Antichrist Siegemachine, Abysmal Lord, Blasphemy, Revenge,... And the OG warmonger gears up with: Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, ...

And every troop has its oddball that has sworn the oath to the true heavy metal gods: Saxon, Priest, Maiden, WASP, Acid, Thor, Alien force,...

We also have to warn the enemy not to mess with Gateway, Ordigort, Bütcher, Bones Death Metal and Schizophrenia both homeland forces to be reckoned with.My first encounter with extreme metal came at the young age of 12 years old where I got in contact with classic USDM bands such as Vital Remains,Deicide and Cannibal Corpse. I never looked back and kept digging deeper into the underground.

3. When did you first meet the other members of Iron Death and was it long before you all started this band? How did you choose Iron Death as the name of the band?

In 2019 R.V. and D.G. met at the battlefields of "Heavy Metal Afterparties''. There they laid down lines for their coup. J.V.B. and A.L. joined the ranks after two months. The stage was set, The conquering could begin!

Iron Death was formerly named Eiserner Tod. A supposedly solo project of R.V. that grew out of another project entitled Atrocious Command, found its way to the killing fields due to the persistence and comradery with D.G.

The Name refers to the industrialisation of warfare that was THE GREAT WAR.

4. What is the current line-up of the band? Who would you say are the bands biggest influences?

The Battalion is and always will be:

R.V. on Guitar duties

D.G. on vocals

J.V.B. on Bass

A.L. on Drums

5. Demo MMXXII is the debut demo. How long did it take the band to write the music for the debut?Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write everything?

We started our primal warmongering in late 2021. Only 6 months later we self recorded the demo. We make a habit out of it to record our battles in one track and live. Some storytelling is added in the end by the mixing and mastering skills of R.V. The writing process has evolved since our first meetings and rehearsals. Every member has its own background in music and pours that into the mixture.

6. Besides the Demo MMXXII release does the band have any other merchandise currently available for the readers to purchase?

YES! You can support the troops by buying our merch on bandcamp: the demo on Cassette or buying a shirt. They are very limited so don't sleep!

We are looking into doing more themed releases but for now the recular formats have to suffice.

Our bandcamp: irondeath.bandcamp.com

7. I believe the lyrics are based around world war one. When did you first become interested in reading and studying this war?Are there any other wars or times in history that you enjoy reading and studying?

Correct! D.G. is a story writing maniac who loves digging into facts and history. He digs as deep as the trenches.

Other world wars are very well documented and very easy to access. The complexity of THE GREAT WAR is really fascinating and just keeps on giving. For now we'll stick to it. The fascination began with a band brainstorm.

8. Has Iron Death had the opportunity to perform live yet or do you prefer working in the studio?

We come out of the trenches as much as possible, laying waste to the enemies that dare approach us. We never work in a studio. Only the rat infested dug out we call home.

9. What have been some of your most memorable shows so far?Who are some bands you have shared the stage with?

We played a couple of shows alongside the reïnforcements from overseas Kruelty (JPN) and Ordigort (BE). Ripping up venues on local soil is our first wage of war. We want to reïnforce our position and test our gear before heading out on a conquering campaign. Laying waste to Europe is our endgame. Responses to live barrages have been positive. The troops are growing, Recruitment is going well.

10.What does Underground Metal mean to you?

Underground metal means a community where there are no classes, no ranks. Every soldier is worth its person. As long as the battles are fought in dark and sketchy places with all the courage and heart that the troops can muster. WE SUPPORT.

If the victory on the other hand is bought through propaganda we don't associate with that class. We prefer hard earned honour through blood and sweat.

My whole life revolves around it. I travel far and wide to witness all sorts of different acts, and try to support the scene as much as I can.

11. Has the band started working on new music for the next demo or would you like to release a full length?

In the books is a full length planned for next summer. But as fickle as war is, we don't want to set the date to attack. Week by week we plow through the mud gaining ground. We're making progress and that's all that counts for now.

12. Iron Death comes out of Belgium's black, death metal scene. What is your opinion of the scene in Belgium over the years?

It's hard to have an opinion over a whole scene. We clearly know our roots and can connect with the late 80's, early 90’s movement led by bands like Ancient Rites, Enthroned and Agathocles, where the crowd was very rural and eclectic. However, the evolution to a more extreme right or left wing political scene is a thing that repulses us. We each have our own beliefs but don’t mingle too much politics in our music. It separates more than anything.

13. Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Belgium and are there any new bands you could recommend to the readers?

That's simple. All time favourites are Ancient Rites and Acid. Thee Plague Of Gentleman (later SerpentCult), the raw black metal filth of Perverted Ceremony and Moenen of Xezbeth. And the lesser known death metal grime of Abortofacient, who recently released their first EP on Nuclear War Now!

New battalions you should be on the lookout for are: Gateway’s upcoming full-length (solo project by our guitarist R.V.), Abortofacient, Bones debut full-length on Invictus Prod., Bütcher and Ordigort and some young local old school blackened thrash kids around here called Cobracide.

14. When you need to take a break from working on new music or band business, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

THE ENEMY NEVER SLEEPS                                                                                                                   Iron  Death Contacts                                                                                                                                     https://irondeath.bandcamp.com/releases                                                                                                     https://www.facebook.com/IRONDEATHBATTALION                                                                             https://www.instagram.com/irondeathbattalion/

Interview with Henrique Antichrist vocals and all instruments for Satanic Command Posted on 8-31-22

1.Hails Henrique . please introduce yourself to the readers?

Hails Patrick!! thank all the evil entities that are present in this web-zine Violent Demise.

2.When did you first become interested in writing and playing music? What are the instruments that you currently play?

I started to be interested in playing in 2017 but only in 2018 I started playing guitar in a Black/Thrash band when the entities Hellfire and Hellbütcher invited me to play in Infernal Attack, but only at the beginning of 2020 I started my first solo project Satanic Command. I currently play guitar, bass, keyboard and drums.

3.Are you self taught or did you take some lessons when first starting out? Are their any instruments that you currently do not play but would like to learn one day?

I started playing guitar in 2018 I never took lessons or anything like that, whenever I wanted to play I just took some reference song and tried to follow along, I remember that the first riff I managed to do was Burzum - (Ea, Lord of the Depths) so it was with the other instruments I play nowadays, I just follow the instinct and try to feel the instruments in my soul. I would like to learn to play several instruments someday like violin, flute, piano among others that express all the feelings I want to spread.

4..Henrique you also handle the vocals for the band when did you first become interested in screaming and growling?Do you do anything special to keep your throat and voice healthy?

I started with vocals for the first time in 2020 at Satanic Command at first it was a little difficult as I had never sung anything before, but all my vocals are recorded when I'm a little drunk it helps me scream without fear and of course Alcohol is the best way to do this.

5.Who some of your all-time favorite musicians and vocalists over the years?

That would surely be B.S.o.D. (Grausamkeit), Azgorh (Drowning the Light), Werwolf (Satanic Warmaster), Meyhna'ch (Mütiilation) and War Torech (Torturium).

6.Henrique you started Satanic Command in 2020 what gave you the idea to start this band?

At first I played with Infernal Attack around 2018 to 2020 it was a very good band but I felt I should do something by myself where I could better explain myself about Black Metal.

7.For the readers who have never heard Satanic Command's music how would you best describe it?Who would you say are the bands biggest influences?

Listening to the Satanic Command is like imagining a cauldron with various Black Metal ingredients such as Horna, Sargeist, Cruor Cultum, Dark Funeral, Satanic Warmaster among other evil entities.

8.I believe you are the sole member of the band did you plan to work alone or would you like to find more musicians to work with in order to do some live shows one day?

At the moment I believe that the Satanic Command will just be a one-man band, maybe in the future I might be playing with new entities at shows, but at the moment I don't think about it that much.

9.Cult Of The Beast's Blood is the debut release how long did it take you to write the music for the debut?

it took me around a month to do it myself, the vocals were a bit tricky to do because i didn't have a mic so i did it with a low quality headphone but i liked the result, i recorded this full album all in My house and I still record and mix everything on my own I never recorded anything in studios.

10.Where do you draw inspiration for the lyrics and what are some topics written about on the debut release?

My inspiration for the lyrics is the rebelliousness and hate that I see around the world! in Satanic Command I talk a lot about this kind of rebellion about the rotten christians that crawl on this earth with their oppressive laws, I really like the tracks (Cult of the Beast's Blood) and (My Master of Darkness) I talk a lot about the hate I have upon them is an army of shadows that will trample them until their last breath.

11.Besides the Cult Of The Beast's Blood release you have some demo's and EP's out are these still availible for the readers to purchase?Besides physical releases do you currently have any other merchandise for the readers to purchase if yes what is availible and where can the readers purchse it?

Yes, the two demos Satanic Command, Satanic Lunatic Terrorist and the EP The Black Devastation are available but only in digital format on Bandcamp.

12.What does Black Metal mean to you?

Black Metal for me has always been and always will be not only a genre, but also a philosophy of life, a means of expression for minds tired of being tied to social currents, a way to communicate with other entities that share the same ideals, where the sound takes you to a distant and dark place, for me Black Metal will always be my refuge where I can be.

13.Do you currently work with any other bands or solo projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?

Yes, I have other projects that share different ideas, I think the human mind shares with many characters that exist in their minds, thinking about that I create projects where I can express myself in different ways, for each character that exists in my head I would like to create one project that talks about these ideas. at the moment I have three solo projects Satanic Command, Melancholy of Evil, Ocutos and Vampire Lord.

14.Henrique you come out of Brazil's Black Metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in Brazil over the years?

The Brazilian Black Metal scene is one of my favorites, the desire to play and spread the plague grows more and more around here! there are bands over 25 years old that have been active since the beginning, and after this pandemic the number of Black Metal bands grew even more, not only in Brazil but also around the world, I see older people who are putting together new projects and new ideas to always be closer to Black Metal.

15.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Brazil and are their new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

Cruor Cultum is certainly one of the best bands in Brazil for me, their icy riffs that make you want to exist just to spread chaos. Hecate is another band that makes me wonder how magical pagan Black Metal can be. If I were to recommend some new bands that I've been listening to in the last few days, it would definitely be Profanatic Lust, a band of my brother Hellbütcher that I had the honor of accompanying all the tragetoria, Flesh of Tituba UK a band of my friend

Acwulf Atchame, Varw from Australia and Lamp of Murmuur USA.
