Primordial Serpent interview done by Jay Posted on 3-30-24

Hi this is Jay reporting from Bogota, Colombia

Today I’m lucky enough to be talking with Dominus Wolnir, the mastermind behind the mighty Primordial Serpent from Canada…

Hi man, thanks for taking the time to talk to our readers…

1- Tell us about Primordial Serpent. when/where/why did you decide to start the band?

For sure. I started the band in 2020 during the covid pandemic in basement in Winnipeg and initially it was something to get me through the pandemic. However it later evolved from a hobby to a side passion of mine

2- You are one of the most prolific and most talented Black Metal musicians of the ‘current era’…

Run us through your discography and tell our readers where they can get their hands on physical copies…

That’s a lot to run through lol. Ascension of the Dark Age, Ancient Myths and Legends, Winter Warrior, Under the Sign of the Bloodmoon, Tales from the Northern Vastlands, Kingdom of Darkness and Despair, Adversary of God, Spawn of Eternal Hellfire, and Enlightenment Through Impurity and soon to be Triumphant Son of Darkness. You can find the majority of the physical releases through the label Master of Kaos and my bandcamp site Primordialserpent.bandcamp.com or Darksigilproductions.bandcamp.com being my label page.

3- I’ve been fortunate enough to have released many of your albums, Eps and singles, right from the very first album, ‘Ascension Of The Dark Age’… It’s been a real pleasure to see your song writing and music evolve over the years… You’re releasing your tenth full length album later this year, the brilliant ‘Triumphant Son Of Darkness’, an album which shows a tendency more towards the symphonic side… run us through the tracks and tell us about the new single.. What was the process in writing this new masterpiece?

The composition process was a bit more complex in comparison to the last one mainly because I wanted to add a bit variation to the songs instead of just relying completely on the traditional black metal aesthetics. However, I would say, the biggest difference was trying to write lyrics that were more impactful in comparison to previous releases.

4- Tell us about your composition process. how do you turn those play around riffs into banging, anthem-like Black Metal tunes?

Just with trial and error, mainly. Generally, I’ll record the riff and if I like it or I see potential for it to grow into a full song, then I use it. Then from there I just use the riff as a foundation, build around it with other riffs, then add whatever comes naturally to me.

5- What equipment do you use for recording?

The recording program I use is Ableton 9 which is an older version of the program. But I mainly I use my Zoom g1u effects pedal and just DI into the program but that’s if I’m doing my more raw sounding stuff. If I’m doing clean production, I use the bulldog amp simulator for my guitar. My guitar is a Cort Custom HT, my bass is a SGR Shecter series bass, my keyboard is a  cheap Casio CTK 4000 keyboard but I mainly use it as a MIDI controller. As for drums, I use a plug in called Kvlt drums II and my mic is a Shure SM 7B

6- What is the inspiration behind the lyrics in your tracks?

Mainly satanism and my ever continuing journey down the left hand path. Sometimes dark fantasy comes into play as well

7- What does the future hold for Primordial Serpent? Do you have more of these classic albums up your sleeve?

Right now I’m not so sure. I’m currently working on another project called None Shall Remain so there may not be anything this year. I have contacted another artist to do a possible split but that’s no finalized yet

8- Would you like to take Primordial Serpent to the live stage in the future and play some gigs, a tour maybe?

That I don’t know. I’ve always been on the fence about that. Sometimes I say yes and other times I say no.plaing live has never been that crucial for me. I just simply enjoy making music.

9- What is the modern Black Metal scene like in Canada?? Can you recommend some new bands for our readers to check out?

I always recommend Nocturnal Departure. Great band. We also have Panzerfaust, Panzerwar, Apparitional Glare, Cell, Akitsa, Gris, Nachtlich just to name a few

10- What bands did you listen to growing up and how did they influence the current state of your music? What was the last album you listened to?

TONS lol. Some of my favorite bands have been Discharge, Misfits, Suicidal Tendencies, Blind Guardian, early years of Metallica, Iced earth, Sargeist, Immortal, early Dimmu Borgir, Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, I can go on haha. But the last album I listened to was Stigmata Mali by Funeral Winds

11- If you could play with any musician, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Probably Rocky George because he was one of my favorite guitarists growing up. The solos from the song How Will I Laugh Tomorrow are still mind blowing to me.

12- Do you have any side projects apart fromPprimordial Serpent? Tell us about them…

Yes I do. I have a project called Kalameet which is my dungeon synth project that’s heavily inspired by the video game franchise Dark Souls. I also have another one called None Shall Remain which is soon going to be added to Bandcamp.

13- What advice would you give to any young and up and coming musicians thinking of following in your footsteps along the Left Hand Path? Would you like to add anything for our readers?

Just keep making material and never stop making it even if you have haters that don’t like it and troll you. Do the art for yourself and not for the people. Also be prepared to take the necessary steps to promote your work whether it be through labels, PRs, or social media. Never always expect people to promote your work for free either.

A massive thanks to Dominus Wolnir….

Hail The Serpent!!!!!                                                                                                                                     Primordial Serpent contacts                                                                                                                          https://primordialserpent.bandcamp.com/                                                                                                   https://www.facebook.com/DarkSigilProductions/                                                                                      https://www.instagram.com/dark_sigil_productions/                                                                                  Masters Of Kaos Prod.                                                                                                                                  https://theblackwitch056.wixsite.com/mastersofkaos/shop                                                                          https://mastersofkaos.bandcamp.com/                                                                                                          https://www.facebook.com/people/Masters-Of-Kaos-Productions/100083264766354/                              https://www.instagram.com/mastersofkaosrecords/                                                                                      https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ5mrPBaMgDuGn71cyYWpbw

GOATKRIEG interview done by Jay Posted on 3-29-24

TODAY, I’M LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE TALKING TO GOATKRIEG, A COMBINED BAND FROM GERMANY AND HUNGARY

HI Man, THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO TALK TO OUR READERS

Hi, thanks for the interview!

1- Tell us about the roots of Goatkrieg when where and why did you decide to form the band?

Goatkrieg was not planned in any way, I just wanted to start a bestial black metal band for a long time. I wrote many demos and some albums but never released any of that stuff. All of them also sounded different and had different names. The idea of Goatkrieg was like a spark that set me on fire and the process of creating the band was short but successful. It happened in 2018 after I saw Archgoat live for the first time - after that concert I knew I wanted to do something in that style.

2- You recently rereleased your stunning debut EP, When Satan’s Legion Marches, it is an absolute cracker of an EP,. Run us through it and tell our readers where they can get copies …I am curious to know what the follow up will be like ..Tell us about the new material you have….

Digital copies of Satan’s Legion Marches are available through Masters of Kaos records and tapes are available at Bál Records, both can be found on Bandcamp. The whole release was written and recorded in 3 weeks. I just had the urge to write a Black/death demo and that was the outcome. I did not think about it too much, I just went with the flow. I recorded all of the instruments and after finishing, I was searching for a singer. My first thought was Bál from Bál Records. Amazing guy and amazing vocalist. I shared my music and my vision with him and he turned it into the best thing I could imagine. Not only is he good, he’s also fast as fuck. He needed like 1 week for everything and it turned out beyond awesome. The whole process of creating, writing and recording was like 2-3 weeks for this debut.

3- What were your musical influences growing up?

My first musical memories that pop up are Rammstein, Iron maiden, Michael Jackson - my father listened to every kind of music as long as he liked it and I listened to all of them too. But since I can remember I always enjoyed the hard and rough stuff. Later I started to listen to stuff like System of a Down and Linkin Park. My first contact with “heavy” music were bands like Suicide Silence and the whole Hardcore scene as well as the New York Hardcore scene kind of bands. I was in my teenage years and was always looking for the next more aggressiv and more vicious kind of genre. The first real contact with Black Metal was in my 20s and I immediately fell in love with it, especially with the Black Metal that has its roots in Blasphemy, Sarcofago, Beherit, Archgoat, Conqueror etc. That is my kind of jam - I listen to it everyday since the day I discovered it.

4- When did you start playing music? And what was your first instrument?

I started with 16 and bought my first bass guitar myself. When I turned 18, I started to play the guitar and turning 20, I started with drums. Everything is self taught. I also got some skills in orchestral programming etc. but not really much.

5- Do you have any other side projects apart from Goatkrieg?

My main band is from another genre and quite popular around the globe. I also have a session band and 2 other projects where I’m also the songwriter and Bál is also the singer.

6- Tell us about the current Black Metal scenes in Germany and Hungary. Recommend some new and upcoming bands…

The scene in Germany is alive and there are always people and labels who try to organise concerts and keeping it alive. I can recommend the band Ortus, really good atmospheric Black Metal.

7- What are your top 5 albums of all time?

Misfits - Famous Monsters

Sargeist - Let the devil in

Ghost - Prequelle

Black Witchery - Desecreation of the Holy Kingdom

Terror - The Damned, the Shamed

I can’t tell for sure if these are truly my top 5 but these are the first 5 that came to my mind when thinking about it.

8- If you could play with any musician, live or dead, who would it be?

At the moment Caller of the Storms from Blasphemy.

9- There is an ever-growing post-pandemic wave of young, talented artists, how do you see the scene developing over the next few years?

Overall it seems like that metal is more appealing to the youngsters at the moment. But when it comes to new bands I have to say that it looks very bad in my area, haha. There are so many good newcomer bands overall and I would love to see a new wave of good metal/rock (all genres) bands to appear and bring some fresh energy overall.

10- What do you think are the main differences between the ‘old school’ and the so called ‘new school’ of extreme music?

I think back then there was more individuality, they had more chances to create something new.

Todays extreme scene consists of more stuff that was already existing but executed in a better or worse way.

Its rare to find something new and its something feels like many bands miss the spirit of extreme music.

11 - Where would you like to take Goatkrieg? Do you have future plans to play live?

I don’t have any big plans for the future. I will release new stuff when it’s ready and if there’s a gig offer I’m interested in, I will put some session guys together and will play there. The biggest problem for a live show would be to find singer as good as Bál because we’re living in two different countries and it’s neither easy nor cheap to just meet up for a rehearsal or playing live shows together.

12- Do you have any wise words to offer for any young artists that would like to follow in your footsteps?

Do whatever you want in your music and if you’re happy with it but nobody else likes it - FUCK THEM. It’s about you, not them. Just do it.

13- Would you like to add anything for our readers?

A massive thanks to Goatkrieg

Danke Schön!

Thanks for your time man and we’re eagerly anticipating your new material.

Hails!                                                                                                                                                             GoatKrieg                                                                                                                                                     https://www.facebook.com/people/Goatkrieg/61555964307690/                                                                https://www.instagram.com/goatkrieg/?igsh=NXF4aXg5cG93N2hj                                                          Masters Of Kaos                                                                                                                                            https://mastersofkaos.bandcamp.com/album/goatkrieg-germany-hungary-satans-legion-marches-ep       https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100083264766354

Puerto Rico's solo project Amock return with a brand new release that continues the raw and unholy black metal style that the band has become known for.The music is a combination of mid paced guitar and drum passages that are done with alot of skill and talent. The music does speed up to a much faster pace throughout the songs to give each song a nice balance. The vocals are grim, raw black metal screams and screeches that fit the band's music perfectly.                                                                            Amock                                                                                                                                                           https://www.facebook.com/Amockofficial                                                                                                   https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo0QDBvMRmo6LUTN_wdII2Q                                                  Blasphemous Creations Of Hell Rec.                                                                                                         https://amockbchr.bandcamp.com/album/amock-amock                                                                             https://www.facebook.com/blasphemouscreationsofhellrecords/

Heresiarch-Edifice cd,Lp{Iron Bonehead} Posted on 3-24-24

Edifice is the newest full length from New Zealand's Heresiarch. The songs that are presented here are blackend death metal at it's best. Each song is played with skillful writing and powerful musicianship. The guitars are played with a mix of furious fast paced guitar patterns and some slower mid paced passages. The guitarist does write some memorable parts even adding some well played solo's throughout the songs. The drums are heavy and powerful drum beats that will crush the listener. The drums do speed up quite a bit for a much faster and chaotic drum style. The vocals are powerful death metal growls and their are some gruff growls and screams that are also used throughout the recording.Edifice is a great release of blackend death metal  that is both chaotic and heavy.

Interview with Endless Loss Posted on 3-4-24

1.Hello please introduce yourself to the readers?

SJ, guitar and vocals for Endless Loss.

2.When did you first discover death and black metal music and who were the first bands that caught your attention?Who are some of the current bands that you have been listening to lately?

Around 15 years old listening to Slayer, Death, second wave black metal. The usual suspects.

Lately - recent releases from Tetragrammicide, Mortual, Bloody Vengeance.

3.When did you first get the idea to start Endless Loss and are you satisfied with how things have gone so far? How did you choose Endless Loss as the name for the band?

ML (drums) and I started talking about making music together after some other projects we were involved with fell apart and never went anywhere. Shortly after we moved into an old house together, where we could also write and rehearse. Many long days drinking and playing music formed the foundation of the band. We released a demo back in 2016 and played a few local shows, but I would say the satisfaction and drive has really come in the last few years with touring and multiple releases.

ML came up with the name as it conjured images of death and depressive atmosphere which fitted with our more “black metal” approach at the time… nowadays the name fits with the current themes of perpetual war.

4.Who would you say are the bands biggest influences over the years? For the readers who have never heard the band how would you best describe the bands musicial style?

The biggest influence has come from the Australian scene with bands such as Portal, Impetuous Ritual and Grave Upheaval, witnessing these bands at the infamous Black Conjuration Festival in our hometown of Adelaide. Outside of that, influences include Teitanblood and Profanatica.

For those who haven’t listened to Endless Loss, it is bestial, hammering total death.

5.I believe Endless Loss is a two person band would you like to add more members for a full line up or do you prefer working as a duo?

That’s correct, for now we will continue as a two-piece. It works for us and we write, rehearse, record and tour easily this way. Over the years we have crafted a live sound which is full and leaves nothing to be desired. All of our releases have been recorded live in full takes with only extra guitar for panning and a few leads. No actual bass guitar was ever recorded despite countless reviews which praise “heavy bass”.

6.Traversing The Mephitic Artery is the debut full length that will be released through Nuclear Winter Rec. When did you all first come in contact with this label?

We came into contact last year shortly after recording the album, although we were already very aware of NW’s style and quality of bands being put out. Our style and approach fits well with the label and Anastasis has been nothing short of legendary in terms of looking after us and the release! Total support to Nuclear Winter Recs

7.How long did it take to write the music for the debut release?

Some of the songs were written around the same time as the “Bloodletting…” EP, with the rest being written in pandemic isolation and finally rehearsed later.

8.Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the band and what are some topics written about on the debut?

I personally handle all the lyrics, with recurring themes of death, barbarity, war, hedonism, ancient and occult ritualistic practices.

9.Besides the upcoming Traversing The Mephitic Artery release are the bands previous releases still availible for the readers to purchase? Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently available? If yes what is availible and where can the readers purchase it?

Currently all the previous releases are sold out, hopefully at some point we can repress the Bloodletting Narcotic Divination EP. The first demo doesn’t hold much interest for us any more as we have moved on quite far in terms of sound and proficiency.

A new t-shirt and longsleeve featuring art by Bryan Maita (BMS Illustration) are both available via Bandcamp in very limited numbers.

10.Endless Loss comes out of Australia's black and death metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in Australia over the years?

On the surface the Australian scene has a lot of mainstream, accessible bands - but always a small but strong underground with bands more savage than you will find anywhere else in the world.

11.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Australia over the years? Are their any new bands that you feel the readers should check out soon?

Aside from the already mentioned bands - Vomitor, Bestial Warlust, Martire, Stargazer Sacriphyx and Aethyrvorous. Other/newer bands readers should be aware of are Charnel Altar, Exhumed Korpse, Altars, Ploughshare, Grotesque Bliss, Tyrannic, Eskhaton.

12.What does Underground Metal mean to you?

Pure vision which does not bend to cater to the masse

13.Besides working in Endless Loss do you work with any other solo projects or bands? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?

I play bass for death metal band Decrepitorum and also an upcoming project called Archaic Behest.
