Interview with Pestis Inferos done by Patrick

1.Hails how are things going in New York this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?
New York is alright, getting warmer out so that’s been a nice change, I’m The Pale Horse, drummer for Pestis Inferos.

2.When did you first start listening to black and death metal and who were the first bands you listened to?Who are some of your current favorite bands?
I was actually very fortunate to have been introduced to the genres at a very young age. A friends older brother showed a group of us some extreme metal of various forms when we were around 8-9 years old. When I first got into death metal, black metal the first bands I heard off the bat were Cannibal Corpse, Macabre, Morbid Angel, Defleshed, Mortician, Immortal, Dissection, and Marduk to name a few. It was very exciting time for all of us that led us each down different paths to where we are now. Cannibal was a very big influence for myself, and the others. I actually just saw them play last night and was reflecting on how much the Vile album means to me. They along with the other bands changed my life for sure. I still listen and love all those bands today. I’m not a big favorites guy, at one point in my life Cannibal were my favorite but as time moves different works of art speak differently to you. Moods always corrupt ones idea of the best haha. Marduk is a big influence as well, and are a band I’ve listened to a lot for the past few years, Dark Funeral, and a lot of smaller bands. nordjevel’s new album was great, Avslut’s also great, Outre. The last Merrimack was also very awesome. But I could go on forever like that.

3.When did you all get the idea to start Pestis Inferos and how did you choose the name for the band does it have a special meaning?
The band spawned from a post I issued a year ago looking to start another project/band to which Llord Diabolus answered. We met to just jam and see if we had a working rapport together. We had known another from live shows and underground for a while and liked another’s work, and wrote the first song the day we met. As for the name, Svartherre pinned that down. We had been searching for the right name for a while at this point. I believe it sums a lot of what we are as individuals and artists up nicely. It embodies fury and passion, and for me it stands for the corrosion of my pursuit for freedom. To question and reach, to never accept societal constraints, to not be the mass collective. That for a lot of people in power is not the preferred citizen, and such the play on good and evil is metaphorically used as Pestis Inferos (hells plague).

4.For the readers who have never heard the bands music how would you best describe Pestis Inferos sound? Who would you say are the band's biggest influences?
I’d say the music is very old school/second wave in sound. It’s got a very raw and ugly vibe to it. Recording wise we wanted to keep it very organic, tracked live and no editing. Our biggest influences range from Marduk, Dark Funeral, Mayhem, to bands like Behemoth and more primitive bands like Darkthrone.

5.Beyond The Veil Of Light is the bands debut EP. how long did it take to write the music for the debut EP.?Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write everything?
All the material was written pretty quickly. We play altogether once every other week and would do a song each practice most the time. It has been great so far and I’m happy to say all members write and contributed on the ep. The guys would bring riffs/ideas, and arrange it with me. There were also parts that were all written together with everyone throwing in little details.

6.I believe Beyond The Veil Of Light is a digital release are their any plans to do a physical release soon?Besides the debut release does the band have any other merchandise currently available for the readers to purchase? If yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?
Well it was uploaded for a short time as an advance listen but has since been taken down until the official release date. But it is not a digital only release. We pressed a one time limited edition cd, hand numbered press of 300. We also have two different shirts with art specific to this ep. The shirts are also a one time limited press and are almost sold out now. All merch is available on our bandcamp.

7.Would you like to find a label to work with to release your future your releases or do you prefer doing everything yourselves?
I don’t mind doing it by ourselves but I would like to find a label to work with for sure. I want to go with someone who likes the music, has the same ideas and vision in releasing a quality product.

8.Has the band started working on new material for the next release or are you just concentrating on promoting the new release?
At the moment we are writing for the next ep that we will also be releasing this year. We have three songs done so far. Doing some extra touches on those as well. We have ideas, riffs/arrangements for a few more song already as well. We have been doing both, and excited to keep this momentum rolling.

9.Has Pestis Inferos played very many live shows over the years or do you prefer working in the studio?
We haven’t played any official shows at this point, we did play an instrumental for a select group of people but that’s it. We have plans to be playing out this summer in support of the ep and will continue on into the fall and winter.

10.Are their any shows coming up in support of the debut EP.?If yes where will the band be playing and who are some bands you will share the stage with?
As of right now we have two shows booked but are not allowed to announce the dates and lineups quiet yet. They are localized to central Ny is all I can say.

11.What does black metal mean to you?
Black metal to me? Well I’d say it is a dark expression, which is without limit and boundless in my option. It’s passion ranges from depression, pain, fury, misanthropy, love, freedom, knowledge/the pursuit thereof and much more. It is the black star in the white sky, it is a question against all, and the opposition to societies constraints.

12.Besides playing in Pestis Inferos do any of the members currently play in any other bands or solo projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?
Svartherre and I are also the creators of both Disfigured Dead and NilExistence. Both are death metal. Disfigured was more traditional, cannibal corpse, Morbid angel, suffocation in sound. While NilExistence explores a bit further. This current line up of Pestis is going to be recording the new NilExistence release this winter actually. Svartherre is also in a heavy metal band Fatal Curse, and
llord has two other bands: maantrik (Black thrash) and a more metal/rock band Moonshine Goatherd.

13.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
Thank you for the chance to speak together and to anyone taking the time to read this. Check out the ep on our bandcamp and pick up the cd if you like what you here!!
