Interview with Venereal Baptism done by Patrick
1.Hails how are things going in Texas this week? Please introduce yourself to the readers?
Fermentor:
Greetings from Texas, brutal temperatures and the constant atmosphere of death along the border as usual! Fermentor here, lead guitar and vocals for VB.
Adversor:
Hails, we have had several random mass shootings around and everything’s cool. More material for future songs. Adversor here, founding member and rhythm guitars and what-not.
2.When did you first discover black and death metal music and who were the first bands you listened to?Who are some of the current bands that have caught your attention?
Fermentor:
Altars of madness was the first death metal album I discovered when I must have been around 13 or 14 years old...I listen to it regularly still to this day! Currently listening to all of the music coming out of Texas and the Local underground scene. Baptized by Fire, Maiestas, Mass Infect, Thy Feeble Saviour, In Oblivion, Abominate, Imprecation and Black Jackal all have new or up and coming releases just to name a few. Also been spinning our chilean allies Diabolical Messiah and Invocation Spells!
3. Venereal Baptism was started in 2014 when did you first get the idea to start this band? Who would you say are the bands biggest influences?
Adversor:
I believe it was early that year when I had the idea of creating something from the gut full of visceral violence inspired by the area where we call home. Living at the most violent border in the world does have its good things when it comes to making guttural art and the proof is with Venereal Baptism. You can be at peace for one minute and the next one you have a full fletched war coming on the streets, and with war I mean a literal war with heavy machinery going on, corpses hanging on highways, decapitations, etc. Perfect city for what we do.
4. I believe Venereal Baptism is a two man band would you like to add more members to make a full line-up or do you prefer working as a duo?
Adversor:
At the moment we are not seeking for a third or a fourth member but we don’t rule out the idea. We currently have live musicians for our shows but they are not permanent members. Definitely working as a duo is way easier and we’d like to keep it that way. Only time will tell if we decide to add someone to the lineup.
5. Repugnant Coronation Of The Beast is the bands second full length release which will be released in September through Osmose Prod.when did you first come in contact with this label?
Adversor:
That’s correct, the album is out September 27, 2019 worlwide in vinyl and cd formats. We first came in contact with Patric from WSL Studios as we were looking for someone to mix the “Deviant Castigation Liturgy” album. Later we received a notification from Osmose Productions letting us know that they wanted us to sign a contract with them and here we are. It has been a great opportunity to us as the doors started to open everywhere.
6.How long did it take to write the music for the new release? How long does it usually take to complete one song?
Adversor:
I take around 30 minutes to several hours to complete a song depends on inspiration and mood. I usually work alone and present the raw recordings to Fermentor so we can discuss about the arrangements in general. I really don’t remember exactly how many hours I spent writing the new stuff. I never keep track of stuff like that but you gave me a good idea.
7.Who usually writes the lyrics for the music and which usually comes first the music or the lyrics?
Adversor:
As stated before, I usually write the music first and most lyrics are written by Fermentor with only a few exceptions. The riffs always dictate the way the words must be. Simple, primitive and straight to the point.
8.Besides the upcoming Repugnant Coronation Of The Beast release is the bands previous releases still available to purchase?Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently available fpr the readers to purchase?
Adversor:
Yes, “Progenitor of all Aberrations” is still available via Throats Productions and “Deviant Castigation Liturgy” via Osmose Production, in addition the band still have some logo shirts and other designs as well. You can get in contact with me at woekult@gmail.com.
9.Does Venereal Baptism ever play live or do you prefer to work in the studio? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows?
Fermentor:
Opening for Angelcorpse in Houston during their farewell tour was insane! The pre fest for DTF 14 was amazing, as well as sharing the stage with Impiety in San Antonio.
Adversor:
Yes, we do play live. The most memorable ones that I remember is the Angelcorpse farewell show in Houston, Texas as well as our 2 presentations at the Destroying Texas Fest and also sharing the stage with Impiety in San Antonio, Texas.
10.Are their any shows or tours planned in support of the new release? If yes where will the band be playing and who are some bands you will share the stage with?
Fermentor:
Touring has been a challenge due to our busy work schedules, but we consider ourselves a very active band and are always looking for the opportunity to play a gig, fest, or tour whenever possible!
11.What does underground metal mean to you?
Fermentor:
Underground metal to me is as much about the music as it is about the people involved. Forming a brotherhood with other bands, venues, promoters and music studios from all over the world to keep this beast alive and genuine.
12.Besides working in Venereal Baptism do either of you currently work in any other bands or solo projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about theem?
Fermentor:
I have been staying busy as a live member of Sacrocurse for the past year, as well as my local death metal band Decayed Mutilation and a new melodic doom outfit called Phobos Monolith.
Adversor:
Right now, all my projects are on halt to give Venereal Baptism my full attention but here are some of them: Nethermost (melodic death/doom metal), Grieving Mirth (post-black metal), Wraith of Extinction (d-beat/black metal). As you can see, I always try to find ways to explore my inner self to deal with whatever odd thought or feeling I might have. I try to keep things a little varied.
13.Venereal Baptism comes out of the Texas blackend death metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in Texas over the years?
Fermentor:
The Texas scene is a force to be reckoned with, even in the face of adversity due to protests and backlash from groups who would rather suppress artists than come up with something better to do with their social media based existence. It has been here long before and will continue to thrive for years to come!
Adversor:
Texas is big when it comes to true underground metal and it has been big since the beginning of times. Bands like Necrovore paved the way for the awesome bands we have today around the world. Then you have Imprecation and the list goes on and on
14.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Texas and are their any new bands you could recommend to the readers?
Fermentor:
ABSU, Divine Eve, Insect Warfare, Antisma, P.L.F. and of course Necrovore are some of my favorite Classics! Some new bands include Necrovision from South Texas, Trenchant, Churchacide and Pious Levus.
Adversor:
Necrovore, Imprecation, Absu, Devourment… As far as new acts, I’d say Thy Feeble Saviour and now Cemetarian are two of my current favorites.
15.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
Fermentor:
Support your local scene and be prepared to shut down any protesters or any who dare bring a fight to the underground. Stand your ground, for they are nothing!
Adversor:
Keep an eye open for “Repugnant Coronation of the Beast” which will be out on September 27th via Osmose Production on vinyl and CD formats. We are also currently working on new material as we speak, the most vile and primitive material to date something most of you maggots will certainly enjoy!
