1.Hails Cadaver please introduce yourself to the readers?
Hellz Violent Demise, thanks for the interest in Abatuar.
Well, I am from Panama and I've participated in several bands in the past 20 years, always on the extreme edges of death, black, grind and noisecore and Abatuar is my first solo project.
2.When did you first start listening to black and death metal and who were the first bands you discovered?Who are some of the current bands that have caught your attention?
I discovered metal when I was around 15-16 years old and the first bands I ran into were Metallica, Malon, Brujeria, Sepultura, Angeles del Infierno, Black Sabbath/Ozzy, Morbid Angel, among others.
As per newer bands with activity in rescent years: Pheretrum, Deathly Scythe, Atonement, Conjuro, Leprophiliac, Nigromancer, Deathwomb, Nosoforos, Pazuzu, Bloodsoaked Necrovoid, Witchcraft, Prophets of Doom, Perverted Ceremony, Moenen of Xezbeth, Vomit Angel, Ordo Caper, Obrok, Cemetarian, Bone Ritual, Ritual Genocide, Pharmacist, Energumeno, Repulsive Death, Lacerate, Sputum, Vale Picha… to mention a few.
3.Abatuar in 2013 when did you first get the idea to start this band? How did you choose?
I had the logo since 2003, but it wasn't until 2013 that I decided to raise the name from the dead.
After several years playing in bands I felt it was about time to shape my own ideas which didn't necessarily fit into the other bands.
4.I believe you are the sole member of the band when you started this band did you plan to work alone or would you like to find some new musicians to make a full line-up?
It's a solo project but I work with friends to make the recordings. The original idea was to compose music alone and still is, I am not currently searching for a full line-up, time will tell.
5.What do you feel is the hardest and easiest part about being the sole member of the band?
I don't see any hard part because I mange all aspects and go at my own pace. The best part is that I do whatever the fuck I want without consuting anybody
6.Mortandad is the second full-length release how long did it take you to write the music for the new release? How long does it usually take to complete one song?
For Abatuar in general it all flows very fast, I have a clear concept of what I want so it doesn't take too much time to bring it up.
Same as previous álbum, the composition for Mortandad was completed within a month, a song could take a couple of days though.
7.Where did you draw inspiration for the lyrics on the new release?Which usually comes first the music or the lyrics?
Inspiration comes from the bloody and gloomy chapters of human history... atrocities, homicides, tortures, deprivations... and the songs are inspired on those macabre events.
Lyrics always come first, and the music is a reflection of it, a representation of evil.
8.Mortandad release are the bands previous releases still availible for the readers to purchase?Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently availible if yes what is availible and where can the readers purchase it?
For merch and music the readers can contact Dunkelheit, there's a t-shirt with Mortandad's design available.
9.Abatuar ever played live with session members or do you prefer to work in the studio? If the band has played live what have been some of the most memorable shows?
I haven't played with Abatuar live, only studio so far.
10.Abatuar comes out of Panama's blackend death metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in Panama over the years?
Scene in Panama was killer in the mid 90's, then it went dormant and took force again on the early 2000's and it´s been fighting since then, with ups and downs of course, but bands continued to do their stuff.
The bad aspect that affected the scene over the years was the fact that many bands only played live and never recorded anything or just recorded poor rehersals that got eventually lost, thus many great bands got buried by time and dust, this has changed since now is easier to record it yourself with current resources.
11.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Panama and are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?
My faves are Christ Snacks, Aggressor, Enslaver, Schopenhauer, Alambre de Puas, Jefe de la Morgue, Demacrator, Cementerius, Hecatomebe, Abomination, Psicosis.
A current a band you all should check out is Hatross
12.What does Underground Metal mean to you?
It means death
13.Abatuar do you currently work with any other bands or solo projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?
My most rescent participations are/were in Tumba (Black Thrash), Alcantarilla (Death Noise), Vejacion (Black Noise), Christ Snacks (Death Grind), Horrendo (Noisecore). Several of these bands were released by my small tape label P.U.S. Records that I run with a friend from Christ Snacks.
