1.Hails when did you first discover black metal music and who were the first bands that caught your attention? Who are some of the current bands that you have been listening to?
Demongoat: Hi Patrick, that was in the early 90's. The first bands that influenced me were thrash / black style (Slayer, Sepultura, Kreator, Sodom, Bathory, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, among others), also the first Scandinavian Death and Black Metal bands. I also grew up listening to many of the bands from the local metal scene in my country. I currently listen to all my musical roots.
2.Horncrowned was started back in 2001 when did you and the other members first meet and decide to start this band and you satisfied with how things have gone with the band over the years?
Demongoat: Everything has been a long process, when we started Horncrowned we came from other Black & Death metal bands, so we decided to focus on playing Brutal Black Metal. Since then we have remained in this musical style without being carried away by new trends in the music market, especially in black metal where every couple of years new geniuses emerge wanting to reinvent the style just to sell more and achieve recognition in social networks.
3.Who would you say are Horncrowned biggest influences and have they remained the same over the years? For the readers who have never heard the band how would you best describe the musicial style?
Demongoat: As I told you, our style is brutal black metal and there are few that still keep playing it, to name a few (Setherial, Marduk, Dark Funeral, Enthroned, Infernal (Swe), The Legion, 1349, Impiety, Unlord)
4.Rex Extermini{The Hand Of The Opposer} is the bands newest full length release how long did it take the band to write the music for the new release?Does the whole band take part in the writing process or does one member usually write everything?
Demongoat: From the original lineup, only I remain. Throughout these almost 20 years many members have passed. So I'm in charge of doing all the musical composition and creating the concept of each new album. Current members always bring their arrangements in their own style to each new release.
5.Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the music and what are some subjects written about on the new release?Which usualy comes first the music or the lyrics?
Demongoat: I usually compose the music first, then I start writing and adapting the lyrics for each song.
Horncrowned's lyrical theme has always been the same: The final judgment battle : the armageddon, where the dark side always triumphs.
6.Besides the upcoming Rex Extermini{The Hand Of The Opposer} release are the bands previous releases still availible?Besides physical releases does the band have any other merchandise currently availible for the readers to purchase? If yes what is availible and where can the readers purchase it?
Demongoat: Some of our productions are available through Ketzer Records, Goathorned Productions or through the band's official sites: www.horncrowned.com, horncrowned.bandcamp.com, horncrowned.bigcartel.com and www.facebook.com/Horncrowned /.
7.Has Horncrowned had the opportunity to play live over the years or do you prefer working in the studio? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows and who are some bands you have had the opportunity to share the stage with?
Demongoat: I prefer to make studio music first of all. Throughout these years we have also played in many concerts, almost always with world-renowned bands (Marduk, Dark Funeral, Vital Remains, Belphegor, Impiety, among others) and in well-organized shows. Horncrowned is not a band that wants to be popular or commercial and we don´t seek to fill our social networks with fans and “likes”. We are just an underground black metal band made for true fans of extreme sounds.
8.Horncrowned comes out of Colombia's black metal scene what is your opinion of the scene in Colombia over the years?
Demongoat: In my country you can find thousands of bands of all genres, but few have a defined projection. Many do it for being popular or for fashion. We have never been a consolidated scene, each band goes their own way doing their own thing, some manage to reach foreign audiences, others make one or two albums and finish the band. Likewise, it is no secret to anyone that as South Americans we are not very attractive to European or North American labels or promoters, which makes it difficult for bands to project themselves better.
9.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Colombia and are their any new bands you could recomend to the readers?
Demongoat: Some that I can name you from different genres are: Nosferatu, Ignis Haereticum, Bloodhymns, Stnzr Cult, Invocate, The Satan´s Scourge & Esbbat. Also I can recommend to the readers my other side projects to Horncrowned: Daemoni, Satanizer, The Arsenicum Potestas & Inoculation.
10.What does Black Metal mean to you and how do you feel the scene has changed over the years?
Demongoat: Black metal and extreme metal in general for me are a direct energy injections to the brain, it is the motivation of the day to day, since I met heavy & extreme music until today it has made my life very interesting. Listening, collecting, playing, rehearsing, attending concerts around the world, recording music and sharing with equally committed friends is really cool.
I think that in recent years, social media has hurt the true essence of extreme metal. Before it was for few, now any idiot with internet has access to everything, which makes the mystical, dark and occult concept of this kind of music spreads badly.
11.Besides working in Horncrowned do any of the members currently work with any other bands or solo projects?
Demongoat: With Necroräv (Bass) & Ferat (Guitars) we are playing in Daemoni (Extreme Black Metal in the old school vein), also I play in Inoculation (Death Black metal formed in 1995 and with which we are back), also Ferat plays in Nosferatu (Black Metal since 1993) . I also have two solo projects (Satanizer (Extreme Black Metal) & The Arsenicum Potestas (Death Black Metal).
12.Horncrowned seems to draw inspiration from Satanism and Anti-Christianity subjects so i was interested do you consider yourselves Satanist? If yes when did you begin down this path?
Demongoat: From the beginning we have been opponents of christianity and we have been led in this war by our horned war commander. We have always followed that premise and all our productions speak of different panoramas within the same theme: the judgment day and the armageddon where evil triumphs.
13.Who are some satanist and Occultist that you like to read and study?
Demongoat: I think part of being or sharing Satanist ideas is keeping it occult, where I am my own leader, my own Satan. Making Satanism commercial and publicly accessible has never pleased me. Obviously since the beginning in Black Metal music I have read and I have been inspired by some ideas and theories of one or another recognized autor (Nietzsche, Milton, Lavey, Crowley, etc). About more recent authors I think the work of N.A-A.218 & Edgar Kerval is very interesting.
For Horncrowned, I am interested in readings and documentaries about the final judgment battle and how the ancient civilizations interpreted the devil, darkness and the destruction of the world and the human race.
14.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?
