Interview with Dis Orcus done by Patrick
1.Hails please introduce yourself to the readers?
Dis Orcus from morbid stinking Ukrainian tombs.
2.When did you first discover black metal and who were the first bands you discovered? Who are some of your current favorite bands?
(Haruspex) Black metal is my first love. At the begining there were tapes with early albums of Darkthrone and Mayhem, later CD with Deathspell Omega an Anaal Nathrakh. It's rather difficul to decide whitch band is your favorite after all that good stuff I've listened to. But I'll try to answer and say that my favorites are insane badass Dodheimsgard.
(Lucifug) The first were the Norwegian (Darkthrone, Burzum, Mayhem, Gehenna) and Italian bands (Mortuary Drape, old Opera IX). And later I found another like Graveland, Master's Hammer, Necromantia, Black Funeral. At this moment my favorite bands Durazis, Nosvrolok, Candelabrum, Ars Diavoli. And also Abysmal Grief, Pentagram, Grave Digger, Manowar etc.
3.When did you first get the idea to start this band and how did you choose Dis Orcus as the name of the band and does it have a special meaning?
(Lucifug) Dis Orcus is the name of the Etruscan god of death and Underworld. Much later he became Pluto. This is the perfect name for a black metal band in the lyrics of which there are many references to the postmortem/underground kingdom. In the lyrics also raised the theme of death, emptiness, decay...
(Haruspex) We decided to create this project during the cooperative work at Lucifug's "Damned Hearts in the Abyss of Madness" album.
4.Who would you say are the bands biggest influences and how would you best describe Dis Orcus musicial style?
Our style is a Sinister Apocalyptic Black Metal. No relation to paganism, ns, patiotic and another shit so characteristic for «black metal» from this country.
5.Somnambulistic Visions is the bands debut which will be released through the U.S label Forever Plagued when did you first come in contact with this label?
(Lucifug) I contact with FPR at times when I search label for second Primogenorum album "Damned Hearts..." release. I liked the label's work and we offered this release to him after the end of the album work.
6.How long did it take the band to write the music on the debut?
(Haruspex) The majority of tracks were written at different time before creation of Dis Orcus project. Most of them supposed to be on Code 0.58341...6 EP "III" which was released in 2012. But tracks were not finished in time because of recording problems. And now after six years we completely overwrote them and also recorded two absolutely new songs "Alone in the empty space"and"Scorched Holy Earth". Altogether the work at Somnambulistic Visions took us about half a year.
7.Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the band and what are some subjects written about on Somnambulistic Visions?
(Lucifug) I wrote lyrics to this album. Lyrics touches themes of Death, Withering, Doom, somnambulistic nightmares, eternal wandering in the darkness of Tartarus, the collapse of the human world as a final result of his reign. Track "Frozen in the embrace of Kokytos" is dedicated for the Lucifer which is frozen in the center of Dantes Inferno. In my childhood I liked this poem and I always wanted to dedicate a verse or a song to this work.
8.Besides the upcoming debut release does the band have any other merchandise availible for the readers?
No, we don't have any.
9.Does Dis Orcus play live or is this a studio only project? Are their any shows coming up that the readers should check out?
(Haruspex) Dis Orcus is completely studio project. And we have no intention to play live in the nearest future.
(Lucifug) I don’t intresting in any «live rituals». Dis Orcus is black clot for deep single listening.
10.Besides playing in Dis Orcus do you currently work with any other bands or projects? If yes please tell the readers a little about them?
(Haruspex) Code 0.58341...6 (Ritual Black metall formed in 2007) is my first and main project. Our new album "Gorgon Ferox" is already completed and will be released on Forever Plagued records very soon.
(Lucifug) I play in my main band Primogenorum and black/noise project Tangos des Todes. By the way, our very first collaboration with Haruspex was a split behind Tangos des Todes and MDP project released by my little underground distro/labell Pull the Plug prod on tape format. And also Haruspex record bass for second Primogenorum full-length.
11.What does black metal mean to you?
The most accessible form of self-expression. Moments of creativity are like Black Witchcraft - these are the real moments of life without human masks among this fucking existence. Adalord Satan Haegl!
