This is Namtaru Axarcuth hailing from Philadelphia PA. today we will speak with Ehli from the band Hisemtuks Himi N
from Washington State
1.) How did you come up with the name of the band and what does the name mean to you?
1.) So, I am part Native American, I have Spokane and Nez Perce ancestry. I wanted a band name that was original and rooted into my heritage so then I looked into it and thought very hard for a band name. So then I came up with Hísemtuks Hími•n (pronounced: hi-sum-tuks he-mi-n). It is originally in the Nez Perce language, translated into English is Night-sun Wolf.
2.) You were one of the youngest artists on my label and when you first reached out to me , I remember you having a different band name at the time, what was that name and what made you change it?
2) The old band name was called Frozen Sin. The reason why I changed it is because It was going for more atmospheric black metal direction and when I would listen to the black metal bands on bandcamp, it seemed like every other black metal band had the “atmospheric black metal” tag at the time and I wanted to be a little different from those black metal bands. So then I changed the music into a more melodic/symphonic and left the “atmospheric black metal” train and changed the name that was more relevant to the music and lyrics
3.) At the time I signed you, I believe you were one of the only bands I knew of with a Native American theme to all of your music, to me you were the first band to do this, now it seems alot of other bands have jumped on the band wagon, do you feel you started a trend that many are now following?
3) No, not really. I feel that the bands that started the band wagon was Pan-Amerikan Native Front and Nechochwen. But did notice that a lot of bands are doing that now and its almost turning into a whole other sub-genre now. Most of the lyrics that I write are about the Pacific Northwest tribe’s history and stories while most of the other bands are sticking to there own roots. I think it is very interesting!
4.) Do you have any plans for a new album this year?
4) Yes sir! Super excited to get this album finished! Right now, I am writing lyrics to the songs for the album. Its going to be very interesting so stay tuned!
5 ) I know you're a one man band, but would you consider having a full lineup and do some touring in the future?
5) I actually had a line up going for a minute but because of the timeframe it didn’t work out. Its funny you asked about live shows, because I was just talking with a buddy of mine about playing live shows by myself and I'm thinking real hard about it, but we will have to see in the future.
6.) I know on your last album you recorded all music ,mixed and mastered it yourself,is this something you will continue to do?
6) Well, the guy that mixed and mastered Wendigo was going to mix and master the last album. I have no idea what happened with him so I had to mix it myself. It doesn’t sound great but who cares, this is BLACK METAL! Hopefully, sooner then later, I can find someone to mix and master the next album.
7.) What is the current scene like where you reside?
7) Honestly, there’s not a lot of black metal bands where I'm at and most of them are one man projects too. I feel that Spokane has a lot more metal-core and punk bands then anything. Most of the Black Metal bands that come from Washington come from Seattle only because its a way bigger city and has a way bigger scene then Spokane.
8.) What are some of your musical influences?
8) I have to say that my biggest influence is Catamenia (early), Dissection, Vinterland, and Death! I discovered these bands when i was in middle school and haven’t stopped listening since then. I really love the beautiful melody with the mix of the harsh rawness that these bands have. Whenever i run out of ideas i will listen to music that is outside of metal and play guitar to see what happens.
9.) Do you feel the scene today is good or is it lacking that old metal spirit?
9) I feel like both, covid had everything messed up, but I think now that bands can play concerts now the metal spirit will eventually come back bigger then ever. Tension is high!
10.) Do you have anything else you would like to say to fans, friends or any other topics you wanna touch on?
10) I am thankful for all the support from the fans and friends! I want to also thank you and Chuck Manganiello from BCHRecords for making things happen! Keep them horns up
I just wanted to say I’m glad we are good friends, I always believed in your music and I appreciated how much you believed in my label from the very beginning , I still remember the first time you wrote me saying “I want to be on your label” that spoke to me in many ways.
